Apparently this kid has made huge strides since arriving on campus. Small talk among the football staff is he could be the best Ohio has ever had potential NFL draft pick. Should be AJ/Irons/Papi White show next season both got redshirted.

That's very good to hear, but I think a lot of us were sort of expecting that. He certainly looked good as a recruit. As a reminder to those who wrote him off, at least a little, when he was redshirted while others played, sometimes they play the best player, and sometimes they redshirt the best one so that he has time to develop. As an example of the latter, remember that in 2005 they recruited two fullbacks, White, and Morsillo. They redshirted Morsillo, and played White, and then, after redshirting, Morsillo became the starter.

So Papi White has passed Patterson and Brown? Is he still 166 lbs?

I don't think there is any official depth chart that has been released, so at this point it's all speculation. There's nothing wrong with speculation. Even if Maleek has looked good in practice and in the Spring game, it only means he'll get a chance on the field this fall, and he'll have to look good there, and importantly, hold onto the ball. Dorian Brown is a good back, too, but unexpectedly he had major problems with the latter, and moved down the depth chart, so it matters a lot.

Fumble Rate last year:
White 6 carries, 0 fumbles .000
AJ 160 carries, 1 fumble .006
Vick 71 carries, 2 fumbles .028
Daz 86 carries, 6 fumbles .070
Sprague 54 carries, 4 fumbles .074
Walker 10 carries, 1 fumble .100
Edmond 20 carries, 2 fumbles .100
Brown 22 carries, 4 fumbles .182
Windham 5 carries, 1 fumble .200
Total 434 carries, 21 fumbles .048

AJ, Papi, and Vick all did well as far as fumbles last year, but overall the other ball carries all have a lot of room to improve.

We have a pretty good returning running back in terms of your OUellette.

So, it's nice to think that Irons can do the do.

But there's only one ball, so it would appear that Irons and the other runners will have somewhat secondary, minor roles--no mater what the level of their talent.

Do you not know that Irons said that they were practicing some two-back sets? Maybe they'll only run them in practice to deceive the spies from other teams. ;-)

I certainly hope we get some 2-back sets. I would like to see us alternate carries or go with the hot hand. I feel like defenses have been able to trim what they're doing because we just didn't have a great runner the past two seasons. TT lost a stop and Sprague and Vick were not dangerous against stout defenses. I think a 2-back look would benefit everyone. And we all know AJ could block like a fullback! We are going to score points this year. I'm excited.

I care not what they run, just would like to see the best QB, RB and the OL play through the season without injury. Defense wins championships. Best wishes Nathan Carpenter, hope your recovery is going well. Captain Casey Sayles, lead on, the defense needs a spirited leader.
