Make your nominations for favorite Kicker here. Nominations end 5/24.

My guess is Weller takes it, but we have had a few pretty good kickers so my guess could be wrong.

Nominees:
Kevin Kerr (seconded)
Michael Braunstein (seconded)
Dave Green (seconded)
Matt Weller (seconded)
Josiah Yazdani (seconded)
Steve Green (seconded)

How quickly we forget kickers'names. Please remind me: Who was the kicker who transferred from Washington to Ohio as a grad student? As I recall, he gave the Cats a terrific season.

I second Braunstein -- only kicker I recall seeing assessed an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty for a hard, late hit out of bounds.

New nominee.....Dave Green who had a nice career with the Bengals post-Ohio.

I'll vote Kerr as well. I recall some LONG field goals from him.

We aren't factoring punters into this correct?

Punters are next week (although I am tempted to go ahead and set up the poll as Zastudil vs. everyone else).

Most field goals in a career:
1. Matt Weller 79
2. Kevin Kerr 38
3. Steve Green, Matt Homer 28.

I nominate Matt Weller.

I'll nominate Josiah Yazdani. Don't know if I would vote for him or Weller in the poll. I feel that Yazdani is the more even-keeled kicker whereas Weller has the better technical/physical skills. I'd choose Yaz to kick the game-winner but give me Weller to boot a 50 yarder into the wind.

And Michael Braunstein was great. Tiny guy who would do that leaping chest bump thing with his blockers. I believe he was mostly responsible as a Sports Admin. student for bringing the Globetrotters to the Convo.

I don't have splits for pre-2004 kickers, but the numbers are interesting when you break them out by distance. To simplify, I split it into two distances, under 40, which should be made, and over 40, which is more iffy. First, under 40:
Yaz 24-27 89%
Way 11-13 85%
Lasher 13-16 81%
Weller 52-65 80%
Braunstein 12-15 80%
Rossman 6-13 46%
Matt Green 4-9 44%
I think we know why two kickers lost their jobs. The others are fairly close.

Now, over 40, which is where you get real separation:
Braunstein 8-9 89%
Weller 28-43 65%
Yaz 7-14 50%
Way 2-6 33%
Rossman 2-6 33%
Lasher 0-2 0%
Green 0-0 na

Yes, odd as it may seem, Braunstein was MORE accurate from 40+ than he was from under 40. Braunstein never attempted any over 50 yards, though, while Weller was 3-6 over 50.

Yes, this it exactly it. Give me Yaz from under 40, but beyond that I'd take Braunstein or Weller.

I don't have splits for Dave Green or Kerr, though.

I'll second Yaz.

Kevin Kerr, I remember him drilling his first field goal (about 45 yards) to give us the lead against the school in Columbus.

Nancy Kerr was fantastic! Her Drivers Ed Teacher was none other than Coach Jerry Glanville.

Gotta second Steve Green. He nailed three field goals --.the last coming after a fumbled punt by Kirk Springs and near the end of the game -- to help Ohio to a 9-7 over M#$%i. It was my only visit to the old M#$%i Field, which had a sweep hand clock.

Anyone who is responsible for a #MuckFiami earns the nomination!

So in all, Braunstein went 20 for 24. Not bad. I wonder if he gave the NFL a try...

I am a little late, but Matt Lasher probably earned some recognition since he performed pretty well handling both placekicking and punting for the Bobcats.

Hit the game winner at Illinois, a good omen for Baseball!
