Bcat2--I'd think that the voters go more off of what they've seen ('eyeballs') than the stats. I'm guessing...I don't know. I wonder.

I'll admit, Daz as a 2nd team Punt Return specialist made me laugh. He did better on those than kickoff returns, at least!

Total All-MAC Selections:
.....

If you do a weighting based on 1st team (3 pts), 2d team (2 pts), 3rd team (1 pt), plus an extra point for overall honors (player of the year, etc), the picture looks somewhat different:

Toledo 25
NIU 22
CMU 19
WMU 17
UMass 15
Ball St 14
BG 11
Buffalo 11
Miami 9
Akron 8
Kent 8
EMU 6
Ohio 5
As always, thanks for your detailed explanation a few posts above. I was going to weight this somewhat as well, but A. I ran out of time and B. I was afraid of what I'd find.

Bringing back an old thread, since I sometimes see someone ask "why don't we have more all-MAC players. Using the same weighting system, I went back to 1990:

1990 - 0
1991 - 8
1992 - 7
1993 - 10
1994 - 4 (Average for Lichtenberg=5.8)
1995 - 4
1996 - 13
1997 - 9
1998 - 16
1999 - 8
2000 - 11 (Average for Grobe=10.2)
2001 - 3
2002 - 5
2003 - 0
2004 - 2 (Average for Knorr=2.5)
2005 - 10
2006 - 18
2007 - 14
2008 - 10
2009 - 21
2010 - 14
2011 - 9
2012 - 10
2013 - 13
2014 - 5 (Average for Solich=13.4)

I would guess that 2014 was an anomaly and that 2015 will be back to double digits. We'll just have to wait and see.

Using LC's scoring system on Phil Steele's preseason numbers, I get:

Ohio 2014: 13 (1 off, 10 def, 2 ST)
Ohio 2015: 10 (4 off, 4 def, 2 ST)

But it's worth noting that more than the whole difference between this year and last is explained by two first-team guys from Steele last year that are still Bobcats in 2015 (Basham and Bass), just rated lower (Basham 2nd, Bass 4th). So still compatible with 2015 turning out better than 2014.
