Always a topic of conversation and heated debate. Paw Print vs. Arched OHIO. Matte helmets vs. glossy. Black jerseys vs. green.

Time to hash out the best uni combo. Nominations end 6/21.

I'm nominating the Yodas...green pants, jersey, and helmet. Matte finish on the helmet. Arched OHIO.

Nominees (by request, with pictures where available):
All blacks from the 2011 Black Out: Black matte helmet with green arched OHIO, black jersey, black pants (seconded)

I'm a fan of the home uniforms when Frank first arrived. Green jerseys and white pants, each of them with some sort of striping on them in the opposite color. I know the pants had the green stripe and I vaguely remember some type of stripe on the sleeve of the jersey. Classic white helmets with the green stripe and arched Ohio.

Also, I'm nominating the first time Ohio had the all black uniforms (helmet included) when they kicked Temple's arse.

I agree that I like those uniforms best. However, I think it was a shellacking of Marshall when those black uniforms were first used. We need an arbitrator here to tell us for sure.

I love the all black's, but I think my favorite is green helmet, white jersey, green pants. I remember this combo from the Penn State win.

My least favorite is the black jersey while using another color helmet/pants. It just doesn't look "right".

The Marshall game was the introduction for the black jerseys, but the helmets were white.

Modern Day Home: White Helmet, Arched Ohio, Green Jersey (stitched numbers), white pants with stripe.

Modern Day Road: Penn State combo, Green Helmet, white jersey, green pants.

Throw Back: 1981 Green Helmet w/ Paw Print, Green Jersey and White Pants with Green (Houston Astro Style)stripes.

Don't care for the Brick/Ghost Jerseys as you can't read the numbers. Like white jersey / white pants either helmet, but don't care for Green Pants and Jersey.

The "astro-style" stripe was awesome!

C Money,

When it comes time for the actual voting of this, I think it's necessary to post some links to pictures of the uniforms. I'm not as old as some to remember the throwbacks, so I might like those and could sway my opinion and maybe some others with some visual representation.

No paw, please. How about the old, old one from the early 1960s with the broad green stripe down the center of the helmet? Or, the late '60s with the State of Ohio outline with a star for Athens.

The wide green stripe I believe was something Bill Hess brought from the school in Columbus where the wide stripe was a foam pad, also used by some of the Kansas City Chiefs. Some thought the foam pad added to safety and others thought it made it worse in some cases where the helmets would not slide off each other but actually create more of a sticking thud.

Those 1981 uniforms are nasty. I'd be super pleased if they brought those back. I like that paw on the helmet.

I'm with OCF on this one. Those late 60s unis with the helmet with the state and star where Athens is (posted in some link somewhere) were pretty sweet. Maybe they'd bring us another MACC!

The one with the star looks like it was 1973-76. The late 60s was the state outline with the diamond OHIO, and no star.

Which one you guys want to nominate?

1981 Uniforms against Bowling Green, my first Ohio game ever. I remember Ohio scoring late and having a goal line stand to win.

https://scontent-atl1-1.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-xaf1/t31.0-8...

Uniforms during the Cleve era with silver pants / double green and white stripes. The jerseys had silver trim on the jersey number and there may have been a silver outline on the helmet paw print. The running back is Jesse Owens!

Nice photo of the '81 unis. That "astros-stripe" is clearly visible!

Both are right. The Marshall game was the first time the black jerseys were worn. The Temple game was the first time it was all-black, including helmets. Both games were big wins. I thought it looked much better with the black helmets.

I'll second this uni:

And I'll nominate Evan Shaw for "favorite creative talent", or for "special award not mentioned so far", or whatever category you want to come up with. He deserves a mention for something.
