The week after that game the sports radio guys were very critical of the hit on Musso. (Brian, not Johnny - my mind is not what I need it to be all the time).
I nominate Fitzgerald.
It was a violent hit to be sure and seemed almost planned. There was no look of "whoops! Sorry 'bout that!" from Fitzgerald or anyone on the field.
But....those old Grobe-era Bobcats were damn physical weren't they?! Sure, NW won the game fairly easily with an offensive spurt in the 2nd quarter. (they were coming off a Big 10 title I think???) But the cats played them hard and left some serious bumps and bruises. Fitzgerald (just a sophomore) had an epic game: at least a dozen tackles, a couple for a loss, forced fumbles, etc...
That game made me a Bobcat fan as a middle school kid. I wore that VHS tape out for several years afterwards.
