Tuesday November 26
Toledo (7-4, 4-3) at Akron (3-8, 2-5) 7 pm, ESPN2
Buffalo (7-4, 5-2) at Kent (0-11, 0-7) 7 pm, ESPN+

Friday November 29
BSU (3-8, 2-5) at OHIO (8-3, 6-1) noon, CBSSN
MOFO (7-4,6-1) at BG (7-4,6-1), noon, ESPN2

Saturday November 30
EMU (5-6, 2-5) at WMU (5-6, 4-3) 1:30 pm, ESPN+
CMU (4-7, 2-5) at NIU (6-5,3-4) 3:30 pm, CBSSN

If Ohio wins this week, they’re in the MACCG vs the MOFO-BG winner.

If Ohio loses:

*And is in a two-way tie with MOFO at 6-2, MOFO goes to the MACCG based on head-to-head competition.

*And is in a two-way tie with BG at 6-2, BG would go to the MACCG based on a better record vs common conference opponents (5-1 for BG, 4-2 for Ohio vs Akron, BSU, CMU Kent, MOFO and Toledo).

*And is in a three-way tie with MOFO and Buffalo at 6-2, Buffalo would be 3-0 against common opponents (Toledo, BSU and Kent), while Ohio and MOFO would each be 2-1, so Buffalo would be in the MACCG vs BG.

*And is in a three-way tie with BG and Buffalo at 6-2, BG and Buffalo would be 4-0 vs the common conference opponents (Akron, BSU, Kent and Toledo) while Ohio would be 3-1, so Ohio would be eliminated. BG and Buffalo didn’t play each other, and are each 5-1 vs common opponents (the teams listed above plus WMU and NIU). Which team would play MOFO would come down to whether WMU or NIU has the better conference record. If WMU beats EMU, MBG would go to the MACCG because it beat WMU and Buffalo lost to the Broncos. If WMU and NIU are tied, NIU has the head-to-head tiebreaker, so Buffalo would go to the MACCG based on its win over NIU and BG's loss to the Huskies.

Will be pulling for Miami with a belly full of leftovers.

Battle for the Bricks in Detroit for a MACC? Yes, please.

Wait!? You won't be at Peden? The most vocal fan on the message board, not at the game? Surely you jest!

It's true, the pups will have to do without me as I will be traveling out of state for the holidays.

I'd rather see Ohio face BG in the MACC. I think Ohio has a better chance at beating BG than Miami. Sure it would be great for Ohio to win a title vs Miami. But I think going head to head, Ohio has a better shot to beat BG.

May I politely ask why you think we have a better chance against BG? Just curious.

I think a "Revenge Game" vs Miami will help bring the juice!

For me, the stat I look at first is Rushing Defense. Ohio lost to Miami because they couldn't move the ball on the ground. Ohio trailed Toledo at the half because they weren't able to move the ball on the ground in the first half. Looking at conference-only stats, here are the rushing defenses for the top MAC teams, and for Ball State:

NIU: 103.8 yds/game, 3.3 yds/carry
Ohio: 111.7 yds/game, 3.5 yds/carry
Miami: 136 yds/game, 3.8 yds/carry (Ohio gained 110 yds, 3.3/carry)
Toledo: 141.5 yds/game, 3.7 yds/carry (Ohio gained 238 yds, 4.4/carry)
Buffalo 148.9 yds/game, 4.1 yds/carry (Ohio gained 258 yds, 6.3/carry)
BG: 152.5 yds/game, 4.4 yds/carry
Ball St: 168.2 yds/game, 5.1 yds/carry

BG does have a better passing defense than Miami, but that doesn't concern me. If Ohio can move the ball on the ground, their passing will be opportunistic anyway. BG also has a better rushing attack than Miami, but that doesn't concern me, either, as Ohio has an excellent defense against the rush.

To me, Miami is uniquely positioned to defeat Ohio, with a very good rushing defense, and a passing attack (Ohio's defensive emphasis is against the run). BG, on the other hand, does not seem as likely to stop Ohio's rushing, so I think Ohio will have a better chance of going over 200 yards rushing against BG than against Miami, and Ohio does go over 200 yards on the ground, I like their chances of winning.

Toledo has a case of the blahs right now, twice inside the 20 and no points. Akron could well beat those guys.

If you look at Akron's record and their scores, they've been competitive in most of their MAC games. That said, Toledo may be the worst 7 and 5 team in the nation. Watched them two weeks in a row and they are painful to watch.

Win or Friday and it's on to Detroit.

Toledo started the season 4-1 with a win over an SEC team and the Redhawks. I realize that Mississippi St. is a bad SEC school, but to win on the road in SEC country should count for something. Toledo also went on the road and beat NI. They have struggled the last two weeks for sure.

NIU too. Remember when they beat ND and were 3-1? Seems like along time ago. Now they need a win just to break even in the MAC.

And remember when Miami was 1-4 after a loss to Toledo . How things change.

Wow, Mississippi State has really fallen a long way. they only teams they managed to beat this year were Eastern Kentucky and U.Mass. They look likely to finish 2-10 this year. Last year, Miss St fired first year head coach Zach Arnett for going 4-6. Will they fire another first year head coach, Jeff Lebby, for doing even worse? Or are they tired of paying a pile of ex-coaches? Another of their former coaches is Joe Morehead, now at Akron. (He was fired for going 8-5, then 6-7, with two bowls, and two wins over arch-rival, Mississippi, in two years.)
