Only evening game this season. Probably won't stay for the entire game (some of use live fairly far away and work early the next morning) but I'm much looking forward to attending. The atmosphere at the mid-week games is very "chill" but game sometimes be lively if the game is very meaningful and we have a lot to play for.

Rushing stats in this one stand out to me.

Ohio
Run yards per game 215.3 #11
Run yards given up 114.0 #24

EMU
Run yards per game 150.1 #66
Run yards given up 176.6 #97

Ohio could dominate enough against the run to control the game.

Probably a tough 8 point win type game.

If you would have told me Chris Creighton was at EMU for 10 years already I would have said you were lying. He's approaching Frank-like status, and EMU is better for it. Three straight bowl eligible seasons and can make it four with one more W this year. Just incredible stuff that he's done up there.

Maybe because he got rid of that gimmicky concrete block wall they used to break down as they came onto the field.

At least we'll see that lovely Peden turf instead of that putrid grey stuff they have in Ypsi. It was tough watching their game with Toledo last week. Yuck.

Pretty sure that “brick” wall is still in use. Was at the EMU/CMU game and it was there but not near the field. Back by the lockerroom/sports medicine building.

They have a nice howitzer too.

I see Ohio -9.5 on FanDuel. It looks like it opened at -11.5 and quickly fell. O/U 46.5 Implied score: Ohio 28, EMU 18.5

That gray turf always make me do a double take, as I think "Why is this game in black and white?", followed by "Oh, nvm, it's EMU". It's actually a very nice stadium, BTW.

So, do people actually think in text shorthand?

I wonder if there is an EMU fan site where there is a group of posters that wants him fired for not winning a championship.

Probably not often on something like "nvm", primarily because it has no vowels, and ergo, no way to pronounce it, but I'm pretty sure "lol" has taken life on it's own, and is now a word.

This year Ohio has scored a safety, interception return, punt return, kick return, and pick two. We need to score on a fumble recovery or blocked punt or kick in this one. :)

I wish it was Pups at Peden night! I enjoyed taking my dogs the last two years. However, it is a staff night, so we'll get fed somewhere. I'm not sure if the wifey's thing is the tower, the new academic center or over in the field house but my two favorite four letter f-words are "free" and "food."

I don’t want to say it out loud, but since we need to win out anyway… if we get to 9 wins with this roster… A+ work by the whole staff. Especially on defense with Spense leaving in May. Not enough good things to say about Hauser. Think he might be poached this offseason as well. Brian putting the offense together with spit and glue. Isphording stepping back. Albin knows what he’s doing ( even when I disagree with philosophy and style). 10 wins within grasp when the whole team was stolen. Miraculous.

I know, I know. I’m afraid of hitting submit. I’m way ahead of myself, but think the path is there and they deserve some kudos.

Just don’t lose after I’ve said something nice.

Ohio matches up pretty well in this one and barring meltdowns on allowing explosive passing plays or on the fumble front by the QB or RB, the Bobcats should win. Something to watch because Ohio runners put the ball on the ground on effort plays regularly, though they haven't lost them all. Also, EMU has made its living this year on turnover margin where they are around 20th best in the nation.

Ohio can run and stop the run against most of the teams in the MAC and should generally have the advantage. Overall, the Eagles do have one of the better passing attacks Ohio has seen so far this year so the defense will likely give up some yards but hopefully hold them to FG attempts.

Glad you can make it out there, I'm sure they appreciate the support especially the players. Hope it is a great time.

How about props to the transfers for stepping in? M-W-B, Leake, Dustin Johnson, MacNaboe, Doggette and Rice. They are among our leaders in everything. Heck, let's toss in our offensive transfers too: Owen, Tyus, Bruno--pretty awesome fit with everyone who left.

You aren't lying. I love Owen man. What a special kid. Named captain after being in the building for about 2-3 hours. Academic weapon. Putting up #'s all over the field. Special player.

Leake leading the team in tackles. DJ, MWB right up there as well.

I've said it a lot over the years, usually every time we get a P5 transfer and they don't do anything, but give me a stat stuffer from the FCS all day long. Kids know how to work. Gotta have those kinda guys to fill out your team.

The thing is, the portal had hundreds or thousands of players in it. From all those players, the Ohio staff found a large number of players who could help the team, some from FCS, some from Division II, but also some from P5. The coaches had to evaluate the players, convince them that Ohio was where they should be, then coach them into Ohio's systems, and most importantly, build a cohesive team, intermixing old and new players, and uniting them to a common goal. It's a lot more complicated than just dropping to NIL bucks on the table and having a team. Ohio's coaches did a great job. Indiana is another team that has done a fantastic job with the portal.

Some others haven't done nearly as well. For example, Kent went from a good team to a last place team. They lost a lot to the portal, but of course, they could have replaced all those players with others to fill needs and replace departures. No doubt they tried, but they clearly failed. They are quite simply not a good team anymore.

Still others have improved via the portal, but at what cost? Colorado went from 1-11 to 4-8 in the first year of the portal, and they are now 7-2 in the second year. But, they put a lot of cash out in order to do so, way more than most teams have available. Yes, they have improved, but have they gotten their money's worth? Maybe, I don't know.

This is one where our pass defense will be put to the test. in conference games, EMU has the third-best offense (268 ypg) and, largely because of last week's game, we have the third-best pass defense (168 ypg). We'll also need a big night from our rushing game because our pass offense is only 10th in MAC games (168 ypg), while EMU is fifth in pass defense (144 ypg). Ohio is among the best in getting to and protecting the QB; third in sacks (14) and second in sacks allowed (7). EMU is ninth in both categories (8 sacks, 11 allowed).

Ohio should be able to win the rushing battle. We're second in rushing offense (222 ypg) while EMU is 10th in rushing D (189 ypg). EMU is sixth in rushing offense (166 ypg) while we're second in rushing defense (94 ypg).
