WE ARE SO DONE!
No way! Ohio will be right in the mix for the MAC Championship again. There's still a lot of talent, more will be coming, and everyone is losing top players like this, it's not just Ohio. Ohio will be just fine next season.
Truth.

Yes we won our Bowl game last year without Rourke and we have quite a line up of QB's to choose from.

The team we play in the bowl game this year has a transfer QB who had some decent offers before signing with Georgia Southern.

Not really. It's college football. Players graduate, now players transfer. Sucks to lose him to the portal, but now it's time to see what the young guys can do.

Interesting to see that we're mostly being hit on the offensive side of the ball. I guess they figure they should test the market when their stock is high after a juggernaut year on offense. Oh, wait...
But this isn't done. I could see Cox, Reynolds and Adonis going elsewhere. Brawley too. OUr DB's had a very nice year. Losing our two LBs already hurts and several D-linemen. We may have a whole new team next year. I think Rourke is going for NIL money, not a chance at glory at a big D-1 school. He was a bit off this year and looked tentative. I hope he gets his mojo back wherever he lands.
Cox and Adonis will be back. Reynolds has no more years left. I have heard from a reliable source that Brawley is trying to enter the portal but coaches are trying to talk him out of it saying he is the glue for next year.

If we want our players to stay we are going to need to help these players get paid especially for the future.

Something happened amongst players recently (Not staff). If they win the bowl game I'll be beyond amazed.

Did a little NIL research today and came across this site.

Albin had a very respectable team this year. First time we ever had back-to-back 9-win seasons. You just cannot ignore that.
They're leaving en masse because they're not super excited about the direction that sleepy 100th ranked offense has taken.

Chickens have come home to roost.

You just cannot ignore that.
No, they're leaving for the chance to make money and play for bigger and better schools/programs.
Always curious to see how much of that happens in 1 year. Good luck men.

They're leaving en masse because they're not super excited about having to walk up hill on Richland Ave to get uptown. There was thought years ago to install a moving sidewalk but it was scrapped.

Chickens have come home to roost.

You just cannot ignore that.

I'm assuming that you have it on good authority that this is the case?

Is so, it may explain some of the peculiarities of what's going on (all offensive unit players bolting thus far, etc).

I've been puzzling over Rourke's timing...not that he's leaving, but that he's leaving before the bowl game (given that we have an early game and the portal closes in January). I don't know him personally, but he's always given the impression of being a high character guy. As a Captain, I wouldn't have guessed that he would bolt before the season is over.

Rourke is a surprise, especially considering the timing, we also play the 1st bowl game - in 10 days, but I think most of us expected him to leave in some direction.

When back-ups start leaving starter roles on the table, thats when you start to worry.

Interesting string of posts from Insider and ExCat.

It is notable that all of our portal entries are on offense so far. Skill positions. No defensive players yet. (Though, here I go opening my big mouth again)

Rourke clearly shocked me as I expected him to go towards the CFL rather than trying out likely a meh P5 where he would only have one season to compete/learn a new system.

Ohio
- Kurtis Rourke - QB. will test water and then head to cfl. getting married. time to move on.

- Miles Cross - WR (Offers: FAU, USF, Georgia State, Western Michigan)
- Tyler Walton - WR (1,043 career rec yards, 5 TDs)
when the qb leaves wr look for greener pasture. cross’ offers appear about right.

- OShaan Allison - RB (1,719 career rush yards, 9 TDs) thought he might stay. will see

- Sieh Bangura - RB (1,982 career rush yards, 22 TDs) many thought he’d be gone last year. no surprise here. losing many on his line. an expected and smart move.

- Aramoni Rhone - WR. will most likely transfer down

welcome to the new normal. adapt or die

Why in the world would he put his future plans at risk for some crappy, nearly meaningless bowl game if he’s planning on leaving??? He’d be a fool to play in it if he’s moving on. Keep in mind what happened last year vs Ball State. Rourke dropped back for a pass and was hit on a routine play that looked like nothing out of the ordinary. He tore his ACL. Season over. He’d be a fool to gamble and play in this game. He can’t get injured in a game if he doesn’t play in it. He has nothing to gain and everything to lose at this point. Anyone in their right mind his shoes would do the same thing. This is a very smart move and the right decision for HIM - no matter how unpopular it is for some.

Wow, some kids are getting really bad advice. If 1000 kids ended up voluntarily leaving a college scholarship behind to end up with nothing, that's sad.
Yes, there are a lot of people who get really bad advice, there are also a decent number of kids who do it, just to do it and have no real interest of following through, more like a joke/excuse (if that makes sense), but yes, many have over inflated views.

You snooze you lose. Look how many QB's are in the portal, wait too long, and the spots will be taken. Still only have 85 scholarships.

Its for a graduate year.

CFL prospects might not materialize with that knee.

The NIL value attached to his name on that chart is interesting. Says that he is in the Quarter-million dollar range. Hard for a newly married young man to turn that down, especially when that would put him as one of the top 10 highest paid CFL players.

https://www.sportingnews.com/ca/cfl/news/cfl-players-sala... .

People can think what they want about him moving, but it's hard not to look at it selfishly if you're saying you'd be okay with CFL (to make money...but less) but not the portal (to make money...through NIL).

What I don't get is the argument of sitting out the bowl game to prevent risk of injury, but he played in the Akron game, which meant nothing.

The cat is out of the bag. You have to face it, we simply do not have the kind of money that’s needed to compete in this NIL world and keep any of our top players. More power to kids that can make a quarter of $1 million playing football in college. I guess I just missthe good old days.

This doesn't mean a hill of beans, but...

I was just out looking at the roster to improve my feel for the "next men up" and I noticed that all the portal guys are already off the roster. That was quick.
