I don't see the big deal here. It's now a mostly free market. Players can leave for more money. Players can leave if they don't like their current situation. Players can leave if they don't like their coach. Players can leave if they don't like the school. Players can leave because they broke up with their gf and want to get out of town. Players can leave for any reason. Players can also come in to replace them.

Once upon a time, we worried only about a coach's ability to coach, and a coach's ability to recruit. Now we have to also worry about a coach's ability to retain, and a coach's ability to recruit replacements for those who do leave. The more things change, though, the more they stay the same. At the end of the day, the same things still matter. You want a coach who wins games, but more importantly, you want a coach that represents the university well. In the end, we just have one more thing to talk about, and more names to learn. Besides recruiting, we can now talk about players coming and leaving via the portal.

Ryan Day is asking for $13 million minimum, but I'm guessing the people in Athens will settle for alot less than that. Pony up!
After losing to Michigan, a number of the pundits in the paper and
on sports radio stations were saying Day should, and most likely would
go to Texas A&M.

Guess not.
Considering how much I loathe tOSU, I would love to see Day jump ship to a lesser program just to stick a middle finger to them. However, they would have plenty of interested suitors. On the other hand, if his legacy will be winning 10-11 games a year but folding when it matters most, I would be OK with them always being on the brink of success but not quite getting there.

Interesting that two of the offers have been to Ivy League guys, including one from the program that we draw our colors from.

OhioCatFan needs to confirm this for me!
If you are referring to Dartmouth, yes, we changed our colors from blue and white to green and white because prior to the 1896 season team manager Charles G. O'Bleness could not find a place to order blue and white football uniforms. Sam McMillen, who was hired to coach the 1896 team (but apparently never actually did), suggested the green and white uniforms of his alma mater, Dartmouth. Some sources say that Mr. McMillen was a graduate student at OHIO at the time.

Or "go to farm"!

Things are going to be very different next year when the B1G gets rid of divisions and the college playoffs expand to 12 teams.

Probably going to see a lot of years where both Michigan and OSU are in the
playoffs.

I can’t wait for the unlikely (but extremely possible, mathematically speaking) year when 2 Big10 or 2 SEC teams that are undefeated in conference play are excluded from their conference title game because the right combination of 4-5 teams both (1) had great seasons and (2) weren’t scheduled to play each other

In an 18 team conference playing 8 conference games, the pod system can be built that 3 undefeated teams can not happen.

A theoretical 24 team conference playing 10 games meets the same standard. And that's where it's heading.

This one's interesting. Cross has a chance to transfer up, but where does Walton go? I don't think he has the size or numbers to go up. That leaves across or down. Youth movement coming. We've got some good looking, big, young WRs waiting in the wings. I'm looking forward to seeing how they respond. Might not be pretty at first, but I think the upside is there.

I honestly thought he was out of eligibility. He caught a touchdown pass for us in 2019.

Lots of young talent at WR and I'm sure we will get a transfer or two.

Might be a grad transfer, he's been the only constant for a few years.

Think the writing is on the wall for Rourke, but waiting on the edge of my seat for Bangura.

I'll take your word for it (that a system could be constructed that would eliminate the theoretical possibility of 3 undefeated teams emerging), but that is not what the Big10-18 (with a 9-game schedule) has developed. If you would like examples, I'll provide them. (Its a non-trivial amount of work, so i'll only do so upon request).

At the risk of a threadjack - an 18 team conference can assign teams to 6 pods, and essentially create a 9 team division out of those that changes every year. The 9th game could preserve an unprotected rivalry. They chose another route, and I found one 3x undefeated possibility in about 30 seconds because the Illinois, Indiana, and Iowa do not play each other at all. Same for Michigan St, Minnesota, and Northwestern. I guess that's what NBC paid to get.

There a TON of young WR talent here. Just wait until some of these guys get on the field in bigger capacities next year. Hendricks, Harris and Rhone are some of the highest rated WR’s to ever sign at Ohio.

And this years recruiting class has 3 or 4 WRs and a few TEs.

As long as Sieh stays and a QB emerges we will be fine on offense.

Defense will be the ? but I see we are loading up on transfer portal offers.

Looks like the offense is feeling the brunt of the portal this far. Unfortunate but a part of the game I suppose.

I hate when players say "respect my decision." It's bad enough that you're leaving, but you want to deny me my own opinion about it (whatever that may be)? Ridiculous.

Pardon the self quote, but similar situation with Allison and Walton. Hunt gets touches. Cross was a hit, but in my mind, I assumed Walton and Allison were out of eligibility. With their injuries and COVID years, their classmates have been in the workforce for 2-3 years now.

Not sure what the dates on the portal are, but it would certainly be nice if they waited until after the bowl game.

The fact that Allison still has eligibility is a bigger shock than Walton.

Our offense is going to be interesting for the bowl game.

Can't believe Allison has time left. He made his Bobcat debut Nov 1st, 2018 in a redshirt season when we crushed WMU 59-14.
