This may have come up here before, but I am a new fan of the Smithsonian Channel's Aerial America program and was very pleasantly surprised with their Ohio episode.

Less than 5 minutes in they feature Athens, and specifically, our beloved Ohio University! I thought they covered some very good high points like Homecoming and the 110. After watching the entire episode what was most gratifying is they only spoke of us and TOSU from a university standpoint. Maybe we have an alum in the Smithsonian Channel's producing ranks? As an Ohio citizen I thought they did a good job representing the state-there is only so much you can share in 51 minutes.

If you have not seen it and are interested, I actually stumbled upon it using Time Warner's On-Demand channel. If you search for the Smithsonian Channel under networks, it's an option under the Aerial America episodes. Did a quick scan of YouTube and did not find anything to share.

Not related to this at all, but a Jeopardy contestant last night is an Ohio grad. In his chat with her, Alex asked her about the time she sang "the school song" (I presume that to be the fight song) in front of a crowd. She described how it was impromptu, and that her performance is why she was on Jeopardy and not American Idol. She did fairly well -- finished second -- although I cringed when she answered "Indiana" when she had to name the state where Warren G. Harding played cornet in a band in a town named Marion. Maybe she didn't grow up in Ohio.

This series really is worth seeing. I've only seen a small number of episodes but they've all been outstanding! You learn a lot-for example, I did not know that Father's Day originated out of West Virginia where a small town many, many years ago took a day to commemorate all the fathers in that town that had died the year prior due to a coal mine collapse.
