In order to get to a money bowl, he'd rather have his teams go undefeated vs G5 teams than be "addicted" to money games that are just about guaranteed losses. (http://www.cbssports.com/collegefootball/writer/jon-solom...) But as the author notes, that didn't work for T'erd last season.

I think he's making too much of it. Only one SB school plays more than two "P"5 teams this season (Troy has three) so it's not like the conference is really overloaded. I think two "P"5 games a year is about right for a G5 school. Beating a "P"5 school helps boost a G5 school's standing for a money bowl, but if you play only one "P"5 you limit your chances.

We don't always beat p5 teams but they are far from "guaranteed" losses.

Last year, "P"5 schools (including ND) won something like 87% of the games vs G5 schools (the record was 100-15, by my count). That makes it pretty much a guaranteed loss, although some of the games were pretty close.

Overscheduling P5 schools is a legit issue in the Sun Belt because for them its 2-3 SEC schools. SEC schools range from 5 star to 4 star talent. If as a school you were to play ACC school that range from 4 star to 3 star talent outside of Florida State that is different. The strategy at Ohio is to play the weakest schools possible for wins. I'd like to see the school try to put ACC and eastern AAC schools on the schedule. At a last resort UMass, Marshall, Charlotte, Old Dominion, FAU, FIU from CUSA. Games with schools we recruit against in Florida for players. Money games at Florida State, Clemson, North Carolina, Virginia Tech, Louisville, Notre Dame others try to go 1 for 1. The ACC is a level up from the MAC but not 2 levels up like the SEC or Big Ten. Those money game locations I mentioned are 2 levels up from the MAC but what I'm talking about is a money game at North Carolina, 1 for 1 with Boston College and then a 1 for 1 with FAU with the idea BC and FAU would be winnable with UNC the superbowl game.

Per Scout.com 12 of the Top 25 schools in college football recruiting this year have MORE 3-star players than 4-Star guys. The Top 5-6 schools are loaded with 4 and 5 Star guys but the rest of that Top 25 are not. I continue to believe that if OHIO could get more 3 Star guys the on field performance would improve dramatically. My broken record is you cannot recruit enough 2-Star and walk on guys and coach them up enough at the same time to win a MACC. You just have to have better players on the field.

For whatever reason, we have not been able to get a lot of 3 star guys on campus, even if we sign them. At this stage of the game with Solich, it seems unlikely that it is going to change much. One can argue that the recent upgrade in facilities will change the dynamic of Ohio recruiting, but last years final class and this years class so far don't seem to support any change to much higher ranked recruits. I think that what we have been seeing in the past is what is going to happen in the future. No real change indicated. I have a feeling that Frank's age and foreseeable retirement are factors in our inability to move the needle very much on the recruiting side of things. It may be just the lack of hype here that many of the new coaches have. Who knows?

Although I contributed to the IPF, I've long been skeptical of an IPF's value as a recruiting tool. One reason: Kent has had an IPF for at least two decades. It includes a football field, track (I once watched the MAC indoor championships there), and offices. And yet you'd be hard-pressed to make a convincing case that it has helped Kent's recruiting. I do believe that an IPF can help QBs and receivers who otherwise would have to practice outdoors in wintry weather.

AN IPF is not a magic bullet, its a piece to the puzzle. Our IPF + updated locker room + updated weight room + respected head coach + recent winning tradition + idealic campus + top MAC attendance numbers + competitive (MAC) athletic budget + planned academic center help with recruiting. Kent lacks all of those after IPF.

I guess my point was that even with all those things going for us, we are nowhere near the top in MAC recruiting recently. I think we have flattened out. I'm wondering about the reasons for that.

Perimeter is right, we have all that neat stuff. All we need now is a MACC. Maybe this is the year?
