Per Scout.com 12 of the Top 25 schools in college football recruiting this year have MORE 3-star players than 4-Star guys. The Top 5-6 schools are loaded with 4 and 5 Star guys but the rest of that Top 25 are not. I continue to believe that if OHIO could get more 3 Star guys the on field performance would improve dramatically. My broken record is you cannot recruit enough 2-Star and walk on guys and coach them up enough at the same time to win a MACC. You just have to have better players on the field.
For whatever reason, we have not been able to get a lot of 3 star guys on campus, even if we sign them. At this stage of the game with Solich, it seems unlikely that it is going to change much. One can argue that the recent upgrade in facilities will change the dynamic of Ohio recruiting, but last years final class and this years class so far don't seem to support any change to much higher ranked recruits. I think that what we have been seeing in the past is what is going to happen in the future. No real change indicated. I have a feeling that Frank's age and foreseeable retirement are factors in our inability to move the needle very much on the recruiting side of things. It may be just the lack of hype here that many of the new coaches have. Who knows?
