Bcat2, I appreciate you trying to update folks but I don't think we should be copying and pasting content from Jason's articles on to BA. I think the Messenger can use all of the ad impressions they can get.

Those are from his blog, and from his twitter, not his articles. The blogs are open to read without a subscription at:
http://www.athensmessenger.com/blogs/bobcat_blog /

Arkley's twitter can be found at:
https://twitter.com/JasonAmessenger

He also writes daily articles, of course, and those can be found at the Messenger site, or by following the links Ted puts up on the home page. You can read about 5 articles a month for free, and you need a subscription to get read more of them. I haven't subscribed before, but I appreciate the exceptional work Jason does, and I think I will this Fall.

Paul. All of the above are from Jason's posts on Twitter. However, there is no pressing need for me to bring it here. If it is your impression it might negatively impact Jason or the Athens Messenger I will certainly stop.

I get a 6 month subscription and I started it when camp opened. It gets me about halfway through basketball season.
Cost? $39.00 for a digital subscription.

Long snappers around the country are having some fun this fall:

I guess Akron started the #LongSnapperWars

Buffalo long snapper knocks a bottle off a teammate's head, and then snaps into a garbage can from up in the stadium:

WKU long snapper hits a garbage can from the executive suites:

Jake Hale warmed up by first knocking a bottle off the head of Louis Zervos, but then topped them by snapping into a garbage can from 6 floors up, off the roof of Peden:

I do the same to see the articles. At least three of the posts above include links to Jason's blog @ the AM.

There's a great article by Arkley today in the Messenger about AJ. It shows great attitude, and makes me look forward to some "ground and pound" this fall. It also gives some insight to how they may split up the carries.

Keep us posted on the Special Teams - particularly Long Snappers, Kickers and Punters. I know they don't get much attention, but for those attending the practices, I'd love to hear how that group is doing.

With Bonnstetter back to do the punting, and Yaz back to do the placekicking, I expect no problems in either area.

Ohio averaged 5th in the MAC in net punting last year, at 38.9 yards, based on 41.8 per punt, with 123 yards in returns. They punted into the endzone only 3 tims last year, and only 3 teams did better.

In placekicking, Yaz was 27-27 on extra points, and 17-26 on FG. That's a little off from 2013 when he was 30-30 and 14-15. The difference is primarily that he had more long attempts in 2014.
.......0-19..20-29..30-39..40-49..50+
2013..0-0....8-8.....3-3....3-4
2014..1-2....8-8.....4-6....4-9.....0-1
Total..1-2..16-16....7-9....7-13...0-1
(I miss being able to make columns line up by switching to a non-proportional font, but I added some dots to help make it readable).

In total he's hit 89% of his attempts from under 40 yards, but only 50% of his kicks from over 50 yards.

Kicking and punting for 2016 looks good, too. Zervos will apparently be the kicker after this year, while Farakas will be the punter.

I note some humor mixed in as well as good practice. In honor of International Left Hander's Day, Dixon made his receivers work on making one-handed catches left handed.

I note that after some injuries, they were able to add another player to the fall camp, and the one they added was Conner Krizancic. I'm glad to have him in camp and getting reps, but I thought they might add one of the tight ends back that they didn't invite, Matt Yoho, a Sophomore transfer from Morehead State, or Ryan Carter, a Redshirt Junior transfer from Ohio State. I take if from the fact that they didn't that both are pretty far behind the ones they have in camp.

Carter was a 2012 walkon at Ohio St from Reynoldsburg
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tVwDaFZyKF4

Yoho played QB at Bishop Ready
http://www.hudl.com/athlete/1351978/matt-yoho

Yoho looks pretty athletic, runs well, and doesn't seem to mind blocking, but he probably needs about 20-30 pounds. I could see him developing into the kind of TE that Monroe likes.

Another take might be that they are to the point when a scout team QB is needed and they may not wish to use Duckworth. Was Maxwell on the fall camp roster? To be honest if Maxwell is gaining weight he might well be a TE type.

Yes, I saw some reports on Fall camp that pertained to Maxwell splitting time with Duckworth. The priority at the moment would seem to be determining which of the three contenders will be the starter, not sorting out #4-6.

Not sorting out 4-6. Specifically, who will be the scout team QB?

My guess is that to this point there is no real "scout team", and everyone is running Ohio's offense. Once Fall Camp breaks, and they start preparing for Idaho, obviously a "scout team" will begin running Idaho's offense, but I doubt they are running it yet.

I would expect Krizancic and Maxwell will be the scout team QBs, since Krizancic isn't eligible this year, and Maxwell will no doubt redshirt.

I would expect after tomorrows scrimmage, as a depth chart gets firmed up, certain players will be assigned to a scout team. I am sure everyone would like to come out guns blazing. Lots of returning starters. Not much really to sort out, except to figure out who comes off the field for the 2 back set. Go Ohio!!!

From his blog:
Lots to like about the young talent Ohio has in place defensively. CB Langston Provitt and Howell give the Bobcats two corners with real size for the future. Safeties Javon Hagan and Mayne Williams both have the apparent physical maturity to be able to play right away. On the DL, DT Brian Apr and DE Keith Key have shown well (in my opinion). Arp is a good plugger inside and shown a willingness to mix it up. Key is still thin, but his reach and first-step off the edge has been tough for Ohio’s tackles to handle in space.

We expected that the class of 2015 would be the defense of the future. Even without Christian, Cloud, Glasco, and D. Williams, this seems to have been accurate, as many of them keep appearing in Arkley's blog. Here is the full group:

CB - Provitt, Howell
S - Mayne Williams, Hagan
DT - Arp, McKnight, Colbert
DE - Key, Robbins
LB - Croutch, Taylor, Brunson
The #1 sign that 2015 is going to be different than 2014 is if there are a lot of new names that stand out. The existing players on D can be more senior and healthy which can't hurt but they are still the same guys who were 6-6 last year. It doesn't matter if the new names are guys who were stars of the recruiting class or little publicized transfers.

Aside from the Marshall game, I really have no complaints about last year's D. As Albin and Solich have mentioned, we need to score more points this year.

+1

Those guys in the 2015 class will make sure that the defense is good for years to come, but they won't be the defense this year, though a couple of them may play.
