I have been checking around and only see a 2016 date AT Kansas.
I assume we will have a home game against a lesser opponent. I think we have a break against Marshall in 2016.
There is probably a home and home with a Sunbelt foe.

Anyone seen a future OOC schedule for 2016?

It is unusual that we only have two games locked in at this point, Is there a game at Tennessee next year? It doesn't show on our link but is referred to elsewhere.
From 2010 to 2014 we had all 4 OOC locked in 5 years in advance.

Tennessee may not be listed because a date hasn't been announced but it is listed as on the schedule here: http://www.fbschedules.com/ncaa/sec/tennessee-volunteers.php

I'd guess the other non-conference game is home against an FCS foe as usual.

So, @Kansas, @Tennessee, FCS and Texas State at Peden? That's a decent schedule. They gave Tennessee a scare a few years ago, so I doubt they can sneak up on them. Ohio will just have to play well, and see if they can get the upset in front of a large, loud, orange crowd.

I was looking at Tex St's OOC schedule for 2016 and it includes Incarnate Word. Ugh. I know they're 1AA now but I hope we never schedule Incarnate Word. That sounds too much like Little Sisters of the Poor.

I would say this is probably what Ohio's schedules should look like every other year. Go to two Power 5 programs one year, then the next year go to one and try to get one in Peden. Rinse and repeat.

I agree, and indeed Kansas will be coming to Peden in a future year, though I'm not sure which year.

With the new coach, Tenn will be much better than the last time we played them.

Or will be writing us a big check not to come to Peden.

No, this is a 1-1, not one of those 2-1 deals we had with some P5 teams earlier, under Boeh. Kansas will be here Sat., Sep 16 2017.

Right, so after we go to Kansas in 2016, they could break the contract and pay us a bunch of money not to make the return trip.

Remember in all the recent breaking of contracts with P5 schools, we've been the one to initiate the breaking of said contract. Virginia Tech and Northwestern would have come here, but we wanted the money. Those 1-2 contracts lend themselves to that kind of second guessing. It's quite a bit different with a 1-1. Once we've played at their place and they given us the guarantee money, what incentive would we have to break the contract? And, from their end, what incentive would they have? They would, in essence, being paying us twice -- once to go to their place and again not to show up at our place. The only way I could see that happening would be if Kansas got some ESPN arranged kickoff game with Michigan and got huge bucks, a portion of which could be used to pay us off. Not a likely scenario, IMHO.

#1 I'm not saying it WILL happen, I'm saying it COULD happen. The possibilities are we either get Kansas in Peden, or we get cash from Kansas not to come to Peden.

#2 I can't remember, but was this football deal also tied into the basketball game we played at Kansas a couple years ago? If so, it kinda is a 2 for 1.

#3 Another incentive for them to break the contract would be if playing us would somehow hurt their chances for the postseason, either because playing us brings their SOS way down or we look likely to beat them in a year where they need as many wins as possible for a bowl bid. Given the current state of Kansas football, I don't think it's likely, but it's possible.

#4 But maybe the order comes down from the Big 12. Given the mess the conference was in at the end of last season, and recent comments from Oklahoma's AD (or was it president?) about getting back to 12 teams, the potential is there.

With the way the NCAA is now with 80+ teams going bowling, a P5 team is going to make a bowl if they are 6-6 no matter what their SOS looks like. I agree with you though that they could cancel... ANYTHING is possible. I hope that game is not cancelled. I want to see both Kansas and Cincinnati make it to Peden to play OHIO.

P5 teams buying out games against MAC teams seems to be the rule rather than the exception the past few years. Maybe the playoff money has started to roll in and those teams can afford more home games now. A couple of days ago, Utah announced it was buying out a basketball game at Ball St.: http://www.thestarpress.com/story/sports/college/ball-state/2015/06/22/ball-state-mens-basketball-utah-utes-buyout/29137505/

I really love the optimism on this board, folks start speculating on Kansas not showing up at Peden based on absolutely no news. And, totally ignoring the fact that the only P5 teams that were no shows at Peden in the last decade or so were teams that OHIO asked to not come for financial reasons. I think some of our fans have a Freudian like death wish or something of that nature. Hey, let's go over on the basketball board and start a thread about how Saul really didn't mean that we was staying here for the long haul and that he's probably gone after his first good season. That's Life in the MAC on a fan forum! ;-)

Go back and read his post. He didn't speculate that they wouldn't show. He simply said that if they didn't come, they would have to pay, which I can't argue with. I agree with you that it isn't likely it will change, particularly because it is so close. If the return trip was in, say, 2025, it might be more likely to be changed.

Oh c'mon, man.... 150 years after the fact, they're finally pulling the Stars and Bars down from the birthplace of Secession! I thought a good Union man would be less temperamental than you appear to be right now.

It's not the Stars and Bars they are taking down; it's the Confederate Battle Flag. Before you start a Civil War fight on BA you should get your facts straight! ;-)

Also, Rebs burned more of Atlanta than Sherman did.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flags_of_the_Confederate_St...

Edit: To be totally correct, the flag they are taking down is the battle flag of the Army of Northern Virginia, which was later adopted by other CSA Army units. It's way past time that these symbols of treachery be taken down off public property.

Excerpts from "When Sherman Marched Down to the Sea" by W.C. Peters
For your enjoyment as we celebrate the defeat of the Lost Cause mythology.

Still onward we pressed till our banners
Swept out from Atlanta's grim walls.
And the blood of the patriot dampened
The soil where the Traitor flag falls.
We paused not to weep for the fallen
That slept by each river and tree.
But we twined them a wreath of the laurel,
When Sherman marched down to the sea.
But we twined them a wreath of the laurel,
When Sherman marched down to the sea.

Proud, proud was our army that morning,
That stood where the pine darkly towers
When Sherman said, "Boys, you are weary,
But today, fair Savannah is ours."
Then we all sang a song for our Chieftain,
That echoed o'er river and lea,
And the stars on our banners shone brighter,
When Sherman marched down to the sea.
And the stars on our banners shone brighter,
When Sherman marched down to the sea.

I may be in a minority but I would rather play a Power 5 program 1 and done on the road for cash while scheduling the top G5 programs to the stadium. BYU, Boise State, Cincinnati, Marshall all bring more interest than Kansas and SOS points. Play a school like Penn State or Pittsburgh 1 for 1 with a game at their place and 1 game at the Browns Stadium in Cleveland.
