LSU is refunding ticket prices to fans AND paying McNeese the half-million guarantee for the game, even though it was cancelled:

Meanwhile, Toledo is offering no refunds (maybe, in part, because students get in free) and is renegotiating the $325,000 payout to Stony:

The Blade article also interesting insight into the logistics of getting a team to a game.

I don't understand why they couldn't postpone these games until later on in the weekend. Due to the holiday, they should have been able to make these up the next day or day after. Shouldn't be that hard.

You have the issue of lodging, a travel football party will book 60+ rooms, and arranging meals. This is very expensive and a logistical nightmare.

The reason for this was announced along with the announcement of the cancellation. Stony Brook had taken a charter flight to the game. The charter plane was not available the next day, so, if they stayed another day to finish the game, the only way for the team to get back home would have been a 12 hour bus trip. The logistical nightmare that Billy alludes to, booking rooms for another night, meals, etc, would have been on top of that, and Stony Brook wasn't willing to agree to stay.

And something that seems as simple as scheduling officials could be a problem. Rescheduling a college game for 1000's and a high school game of local schools for 100's is very very different.

LSU listed "a competitive disadvantage" for next week's game against Mississippi State as the main reason for not playing. If that was really the reason and not the ones you guys mentioned, that's pathetic. Their QB needs all the reps he can get.

I would guess that it at least part of the reason why the matter is being handled differently by the two schools. Toledo wanted to continue the game the next day, but Stony Brook would not agree, so Toledo feels they shouldn't have to pay the full guarantee. In the case of LSU, it was LSU that was unwilling to play the next day, so LSU has little choice but to pay.

And I'm willing to bet that in Champagne, the University of Illinois picked up part of the tab, which has happened before when game time changes have affected OHIO's travel plans.
