There is a term for a game like this. 9-4 last season. 2-0 this season. The link is to their roster. Check out the roster. Resort it by class, seniors down. Scroll down. I count 30 seniors and 29 juniors. A group that has done a lot of winning the past two seasons. Lots of CA, TX, MS, FL, & GA. Sure they are a team Ohio should handle easily. The coaching staff is an interesting mix. DC is out of Princeton, having coached in the NFL for the Redskins, Saints, Jags, & Rams before settling at SE La. Young QB coach was a GA at Ohio State then North Carolina. OL coach has been on staff with the Redskins and Jags. Sure they are a team Ohio should handle easily. I just keep repeating that.

This is definitely not Presbyterian or Savannah State. SE Louisiana is one of the better FCS teams in the country, and they are certainly capable of winning if Ohio doesn't play well. They are a better team than Idaho, and probably would finish in the middle of the conference if they were in the MAC.

It's at home, and should be a good game. Since SE Louisiana is FCS, there probably won't be a point spread, but if there were, I think Ohio would be favored by about 7.

Add to that 11-4 in '13. This year's team has a tradition of winning.

If you go by Sagarin ratings, which I know aren't real accurate after only a few games, Ohio is close to 8 points better than SE Louisiana, and with home-field added in, about 10.5. Southeast Louisiana comes in ahead of Central Michigan, Ball State, Akron, Kent State, UMass, Miami and Eastern Michigan.

It is hard to look at anyone out of the southland conference as being one of the top FCS programs. Better then, the Norfolk states of the world yes but a really good program hardly. Another win with a chance to rest players for us. We heard this same stuff about Eastern Illinois last year( it was justified) and we rolled them. It will not be any different this week. The problem with games like this is that Ohio knows they can't compete so we won't see the playbook and they know they can't compete and we won't see theirs either. A boring game where everyone just wants to get out without anyone getting hurt. Does anyone remember Gardner Webb, the most unwatchable game I have ever seen.

For what it's worth, if you go by Sagarin, SLU is the #15 rated FCS school in the country, though they are second in the conference. The top-rated team from the Southland Conference is Sam Houston State, who is rated #5, mostly behind the usual suspects from the Missouri Valley Conference, N. Dakota State, S. Dakota State, and Illinois State, as well at Jacksonville State. Overall the Southland is not one of the better conferences in FCS, but they do have a couple good teams.

SLU rated about the same this year as E. Illinois was last year, so hopefully the game will go well, but against triple option teams you never know. Wofford, in 2010, was the last true option team that I recall Ohio facing, and while Ohio won 33-10, it was only 20-10 with 7 minutes left.

VMI in 2009 is the one I always think about when I hear we're playing a triple-option FCS school. IIRC we had no answer for their offense until their QB got hurt, and the game was in doubt until well into the 2nd half.

Ah, yes, I remember the VMI game, which was actually in 2008, at a point where Ohio was 0-4. Ohio gave up 339 yards, and if I recall, had some d-linemen hurt in the game from the cut blocking. The box score shows that it was 34-31 before Ohio scored the last 20. Wofford "only" had 220 yards rushing, or so.

Your lack of respect for the Southland Conference is noted; but, for the record, Sam Houston State has been to two FCS National Championship games in the last four years and has made three semifinal appearances over the same span. We beat them twice in 2013 and they came from behind to beat us in the final minutes in the first round of the playoffs last year. McNeese State has played for a couple of national championships and almost beat Nebraska in 2014. They blew out South Florida in 2013 and beat Middle Tennessee in 2012. We've beaten McNeese the last three years. Heck, even the worst team in our league over the last five years (Nicholls State) beat Western Michigan in 2013. The Southland may not be the Missouri Valley, but the upper half of our league plays good football.

Our DC, Blake Williams, is the son of current Rams DC Gregg Williams. Blake actually ran the Rams defense the year Gregg was suspended due to the Bounty Gate scandal. He's a very bright young defensive mind and will eventually make a name for himself like his dad. He doesn't fall far from the tree as far as defensive style and creativity is concerned. For an FCS school, we have an outstanding coaching staff all around IMO.

I believe I saw at least one of their players at the Manning Passing Camp held at Nichols State in Thibodaux, La. this summer. They did not look bad.

Regarding the Southland, I follow the FCS playoffs every season so I've had a chance to see Sam Houston State and others. Good football league.
