Idaho is the team that, after Vick had just run the ball for 54 yards the play before, took Vick out of the game (and most of the season), with a late hit on him, while AJ was carrying the ball for a 2 yard gain.

Reading some of their fan's comments it appears that they have the impression that the 2015 Vandals are playing the 2014 Bobcats. They sight their reason for optimism as the benefit their returning players gained from 12 months of experience as if somehow Ohio's returning players had failed to do the same. It's an amusing dichotomy.

We are a 9 to 9 1/2 point favorite. I had hoped that this would be higher. However this might be a good sign because every time the cats are a double digit favorite we seem to have a rough game.

3 INTs for Poling as well.

This could be a tough test to start out the season. Heading out west and playing indoors on a Thursday night is all odd. I'm incredibly psyched though. This season should be better than last season.

I'd like a 35-14 win, but I will accept a 1 point victory, lots of players seeing action and no injuries.

If Frank feels we can beat them with a base package, then he'll be more than happy with any win. If history has shown us anything it's that he'll save the big guns and the surprises for tougher opponents.

Maybe..But wasn't it against E Illinois (or Idaho) that we first ran that GREAT play in which qb walks to the left side of line as if he's saying something to left side of O line...but he's really, effectively, in motion..as we direct snap to running back while the whole D is relaxed (since qb is not in position to take the snap). At the goal line, it produced a walk in td. We used it one more time later in the year.

Would've like to use it first against a more worthy opponent than the weakling which we used it against.

That was the only memorable, really smart/nifty call I remember from all of last year.

Look, I get that it's difficult to come up with such wonderful, unique plays. But we are so predictable...not much in the way of even minor wrinkles off of our basic plays/sets.

Did we run any 2-back sets in yesterday's scrim?

If I recall correctly, the second time we used that direct-snap play was against NIU. No weakling there. ;-)

In general, that direct snap play is nothing new. Solich trots that out two or three times a year.

Not sure I've ever seen us do the direct snap before. How often?

How often with that nifty wrinkle of the qb in motion in a devious, not-apparent way?

Idaho's 2014 season was dreadful, measured in the W-L columns. But if you look at the Vandals' game by game scores, you don't see a series of blowouts. Generally they lost by 7 to 17 pts while often scoring reasonably well.

Some totals (not sure how meaningful this is):

Rushing: 45 attempts for 159 yards, 5 TDs
Passing 32-56 for 395 yards, 3 INTs, 6 TDs

I'm pretty sure that it was reported last year that when we used it against Idaho that it was a new play not seen before during the Solich Era at Ohio.

Idaho averaged 25 points per game last year. We will need sustained drives and 30+ points to beat them, in my opinion. No time for 1st game jitters or missed opportunities.

42-14 OHIO, with four rushing TDs, and very few red zone breakdowns as we've seen the past two seasons.

Things all wind down from here, with two more weeks to the game. There are a few more Fall Camp practices, then next week they go into game week mode, but there are no more scrimmages, so there is plenty of time for dings to wear off, and players to get game-ready.

Do you think he is feeling stress from big donors about running the wrong offense?
