I think some of you have a weird obsession with this kid. First I heard from a very good source this kid threatened to transfer before the season started if he didn't play alot this season. That right there is selfish and not at all a team player, and what about brown? He's not tweeting (disappointed) after a win neither is AJ and AJ is getting a quarter of the caries he did last year. If you watch the game close AJ is always out there pumping players up offense and defense. It take someone with heart, skill, leadership and being a team player to be a starter. It's just weird to me everyone on here goes crazy for this kid but not one word on brown or how good the team is doing! Our running game isn't doing so good because of play calling not skill.
It's not a "weird obsession". It's an American tradition. The best QB is always the second string one, and the best RB is always the one that you haven't seen yet. ;)
On running plays, much of the result is determined, not by the RB, but by how well the play is blocked, and how the defense is aligned. It's easy to forget that. The running backs who have played have done a good job. They have gotten out of plays what is there, and they haven't fumbled. I haven't seen any of them slipping and falling, or going down at first contact.
I feel like I'm the one that started all this because I'm the guy that called Irons a 5-star talent when recruited. I've been trying to stay out of this debate because, honestly, I'd love to see him play, but I also recognize that he's just a redshirt Freshman, and there haven't been all that many opportunities to get down the 4th string. Normally what happens is that in cleanup time, the fourth string gets in, and they try to play well, and prove they deserve more playing time, and that's how they move up.
Irons did look good in his one, short appearance, and if he continues to look good when he gets chances, he'll move up. That's how it has always been done, at Ohio, and elsewhere.
