D-1 quality Q.B's do not grow on trees. We obviously have not won recent quarter back recruiting battles. Our number one Q.B. prospect for this current frosh class is up route 33 with the Suckeyes, and we did not seem to be in the hunt for any other prospects.

They did land Quinton Maxwell, and I continue to think that he will be very, very good, though I haven't seen many others that agreed until recently. In another thread bobcatblitz just projected that he will be the starter next year. We'll see.

I puzzled over what you are trying to say here, and I really don't think I understand. It sounds like you are saying "We shouldn't have given a scholarship to Maxwell because he isn't any good, and should never play, and if it really possible that he could start, all the other QBs that we have must be really terrible."

Since I doubt that's what you meant, I'll just restate what I have said before. I think Maxwell is going to be a star QB. I think the other schools overlooked him because he played for a really bad school in a rarely recruited part of a state that isn't very good for recruiting in the first play. As a result, I believe that Ohio got a real gem who should have been rated much, much higher. When I watch his film, he reminds me of Colin Kaepernick, for whom the pistol was designed, so I think he's perfect for our system. He's a big, strong guy, with a strong arm, and a very good runner. He also seems to be a hard worker, and a leader, and is good in the classroom. All in all, a great pickup, I think.

As for the other QBs in the system, I have no opinion on Duckworth. He didn't play his Senior year, nor last year, so I really have no idea what he can do. Then there is Krizancic. He's a phenomenal athlete. Does he have what it takes to be the QB? That I don't know, but I do know that if he isn't playing at QB, he WILL be on the field somewhere, whether at Safety, or WR, or somewhere else. Many other former QBs have filled that role at Ohio. Some QBs that have played other positions at Ohio are Brenden Cope, Derek Robak, Jelani Wosely, and Mario Dovell, and I'm sure there have been many more. I think Provitt played some QB, too.

Other than these, the quarterbacks on the team are Vick, Sprague, and Windham. I agree that Windham didn't throw the ball well at Akron, but I'm not ready to right him off yet, since I've seen him pass much better in the past.

Sorry LC, I should have been more clear. I am not calling out our current players. What I was doing with my post was to go along with what Casper71 had stated above. We should have two or three QBs ready to play, not just Vick. I realize that Sprague is injured and apparently unavailable. However, like Sprague, Windham is in his 3rd year in OUr system as well. Further, both Duckworth and Krizancic are in their 2nd years in the program. Finally, it is not like Vick was suddenly injured at Akron and we had no way of seeing that coming. He has played injured for at least 2 games. Therefore, OUr staff has had at least a couple of weeks to figure out a backup plan for if/when we lose Vick. Either the backup QBs run the same system or you tweak the schemes to meet the strengths of the new QBs. That falls squarely upon the staff to accomplish this. From what I witnessed in the second half at Akron, I am not sure that has been accomplished. Why? Our offense from about 5 minutes into the 3rd quarter until the end of the game was non-existent and it did not appear that we tried anything to correct that situation. Therefore, either the QBs are worthless (which I do not believe) or the staff better get their collective a$$e$ together and come up with an alternate game plan to play into whatever strengths the QBs have.

I am also tired of posters on here making excuses each week for playing mediocre football due to "injuries". No offense to Akron, but they are not that great a team. We started the Akron game dominating. Then in the second half we played just well enough to win, and that barely happened. Then we have people post that because A, B and C players are unavailable due to injuries we will barely beat next week's team who happens to be Athens Middle School.

Just my $.02 and that plus $1.50 will get me a coffee at Denny's.

As has been stated elsewhere on here, this week should be a good opportunity to give some of the other players more PT. By that I mean let Windham either start or get a lot of significant snaps and see what he can do. I too think that as he settles down he will be a good QB. It could/should also be a game where others can get some serious PT as well. It may not be a thing of beauty but this is the type of game where we look to accomplish a "W" as well as experimenting with game plans which we may need to institute in the future if serious injuries mount. If things go really well, play as many as possible just to get them some real time experience.
