Not only is it whiny, as others have pointed out, but none of the athletes they show wears a uni that has a MAC school's logo on it, so it looks like they got generic footage from some ad agency. One MAC logo on a b-ball is the only thing that identifies the MAC in the first 27 seconds of the spot. Plus, the softball player runs toward third base after she hits the ball. Man, I hope they come up with something better for the MAC's 70th anniversary next year.

It's great incentive to get my ass into the stadium next time I'm on the fence.

And in other news, I've been watching Michael Reghi call MAC games for 24 years now, and today the Northeast Ohio bias straw has broken my back. I hope his throat hurts after swallowing the Zip sword for the second half.

any commercial you have to hear 70 times in a 3-hour span sucks.

She does run to third! And the song sounds like the FSU chant.

One of the basketball players in the ad looks like it's Richaun Holmes. If it is Richaun, why couldn't they show him in a BG jersey?

I can't believe they couldn't afford more than one commercial.

On the bright side, I'm getting really good at muting my sound the instant a game goes to break. The bad side is i often forget to turn it back on when the game is back.

Yes, the thread is a repeat, but it's something that can't be said often enough, nor loudly enough.

it's so embarrassing to see those generic uniforms as if the MAC couldn't afford the licensing fees for its own schools. It looks like a production company sold the MAC a pre-produced, generic "sports" commercial at a rock bottom price that we could personalize with a voice over. It's like using generic clip-art for a print ad. It's so cheap.

I dunno. When I was a teenager I could watch the Top Brass commercial with Barbara Feldon lying on a tiger skin all day. Once is too much for the MAC spot.

It also somes off as stuffy/snobby. The "virtues" they speak of are things the Big Ten usually tries to promote (typically when athletics are not doing so hot) even though no one gives a crap.

And you would think ESPN3 would have more ad buys, but yet every break is 1. ATT Uverse (or your provider) commercial 2. Hideous MAC ad 3. I don't remember because my ears are usually bleeding by this point.

I always wonder how many potential recruits listen to the spot and think "frozen tundra? yeah! That's where I want to be!"

It's a lame, embarrassing, low budget, horrible commercial. It makes my skin crawl when I see it. If it were a person, I think I would have to punch it in the face.

Our local community media station has a better intro video for their high school game broadcasts.

The means to make high quality video productions are more available than ever.

The breakfast commercial where they talk about "Aunt Jane" is Super Bowl level in comparison.

And what do we say? Nothing, we just cash our buy game checks and hope ESPN puts a couple games on The U.

I'm not sure who does the advertising for the MAC. I thought it was IMG, or at least a division of IMG, but they're a good, national agency. If that's their work, we're getting the D- team at IMG on MAC stuff.

As for the OU stuff, I believe we have a tiny, relatively little-known agency named Partners Riley (http://www.partnersriley.com /) doing our stuff. I'm a little surprised that in Ohio, with plenty of great agencies, that this is the best we could do. LinkedIn tells me they have fewer than 10 employees. If that's what you're going to do, why not just hire a contractor or two and have them work with a couple of the upper level marketing classes to create most of your marketing collateral? I just don't get it.

When I started working in one of the state-owned office towers, the joke was that we were taking our lives in our hands because the contractor had the lowest bid. Partners Riley must've had the lowest bid. It shows.
