I get a laugh out of this every week. This week Miami is number 9 and they say" Miami lost this weekend to Ohio in the " no, neither one of us are Ohio State Classic.

The sad thing is that you can pretty much see quite a few of Ohio's past and future scheduled teams listed among the Bottom 10 teams. North Texas, Kansas, Wyoming, New Mexico State, Idaho, Eastern Michigan,Miami. You get the picture.

Playing these teams can lull you into a false sense of security regarding how good you are.

Like everything else you need balance,

North Texas and Wyoming were much, much better when Ohio played them than they are now, and even New Mexico State was better. Kansas most likely will be better by the time Ohio plays them, and they certainly won't be worse. Miami? Yes, they suck.

You are right about the first two(Wyoming was 5-7 and 4-8 when we played them),they were probably better than we expected when we scheduled
them anyway. We are still pretty much scheduling the bottom tier of the non BCS teams. These teams fit our target of better than average chance of winning.

Some of us remember when we were in the Bottom 10. Glad those days are over!

Miami ran 49 offensive plays on Saturday that is like 6 minute quarters on Madden. 49 plays!

I always figured that coaching contacts was how/why the Wyoming series ended up on the schedule, since Solich knew Glenn. As for some of the others, who knows?

I haven't heard about any new deals for G5 teams lately, other than UC and Marshall. Do you have any idea who is coming up in the years ahead?

I didn't mean to suggest future schedules would include such lower tier programs, just the recent past. In fact, with the new home and homes with Kansas and Cincy and the renewing of the Marshall series and a Tennessee game in the horizon, it seems like they are stepping it up a little. It will interesting to see the G-5 schools that they schedule next.

Yes. That's what I was wondering. After your post, I started thinking about it, and I can't recall hearing anything at all about future G5 opponents other than the Marshall and UC series.

I've seen several references to this Tennessee game but it does not yet appear on the BA future schedules or on fbschedules.com. Is it for real?

To answer my own question I found this buried in a footnote on fbschedules.com under the Tennessee 2016 schedule: "Non-conference games with a TBA date: Ohio, Tennessee Tech"

I did a little searching at FB Schedules and came up with this
2016:
Sept 3. Texas State Bobcats
Sept 10 @Kansas
Date TBA @Tennesee <===Money game
(FCS Game TBA)

2017:
Sept 9 @Purdue <===Money game
Sept 16 Kansas
Sept 30th @UMass
(FCS Game TBA)

2018:
Sept 22 @Cincinnati
Sept 29 UMass
Money Game TBA
(FCS Game TBA)

2019:
Sept 14 @Marshall
The home game of some other Home-Home TBA
Money Game TBA
(FCS Game TBA)

2020:
Sept 19th Marshall
Sept 26th @Texas State
TBA Cincinnati
Money Game or FCS Game???

So, it looks like the upcoming home-home opponents are:
UMass
Texas State
Marshall
Cincinnati
Kansas

I would think most people would see these as an improvement over the likes of Idaho, New Mexico State, and Louisiana-Lafayette. I also note that it appears that there will be no FCS foe on the 2020 schedule (either that or there will be 7 home games, and no money game).

Anyone remember this - October 18th, 1993 - We finally end the longest active losing streak in the nation and our record is 1-6 and someone voted for us in the AP top 25 as a joke - so we showed up as receiving votes...

It upset some people, but I thought it was great...

Yes, I remember it. If I recall PapaL said that the knew who it was and that it was a friend of his. This was in the coaches' poll.

I forgot about the UMass and Texas State series. Not doubt a better schedule in the future overall with what is on board so far.

I doubt we pay a FCS team in 2020 especially in that doing so means no money game to cover the cost. I think that it will be the return game of G5 school that plays in Athens in 2019.

If only Northeastern had not folded their program. I would like another crack at them now that we have a legit program. I think that had to be the low point for the program under Frank's predecessor.

The Purdue game will be a must road trip. Along with beating another big 10 team the band show will be special if our band goes. If nothing else it is worth seeing the golden girl and the drum as well as listening to their great fight song.

A friend of mine got a Ph.D. at Purdue and I made the drive a few times. Coming from Cleveland, that drive is awful. Almost none of it is on interstates and you have to crawl through a few towns in addition to dealing with the stultifying scenery along the way (flat with corn and alfalfa alternating for your undivided attention). That complaint aside, West Lafayette is a good college town. Stops at Lafayette Brewing, Harry's Chocolate Shop (not a chocolate shop) and Triple XXX restaurant eased the pain of the drive, and it's fun to get an up-close look at the Convo's twin.

I like playing teams like Purdue and Kansas. Winnable games against the P5. One for cash, one for a return trip. While Kansas isn't good, I think their name will excite people when they do make it to Peden.

Not to mention the signs frequently reminding you that HELL IS REAL or to buy an RV from someone named Tom Raper.
