Beer will have zero impact on student attendance. Even if it's sold publicly, it won't be sold on the student side. and even if it were, will it be a better deal than the Cats Eye?

Let's see how Tower Side attendance holds up over the course of a 4 hour game spent increasingly staring into the sun...

Publicize the start time as 1.5 hours after actual start time.
Give freebies only after the game.
Promise tOSU gear to those in the seats at the end of the game.
Allow the 110 to play constantly during the second half.
Allow smoking in the stadium.
Serve beer on the way out of the stadium only after the game is over.
Give a credit for a sociology class with proof of staying for an entire game.

Being new to Bobcat games, I have no idea why this is so, and I really don't want to tread on tradition here, but I think it's odd that our cheerleaders, (whose job it is to encourage the crowd), do not cheer in front of the students or the band. They do travel to a different corner of the stadium at each quarter, and I guess that's nice so everyone can see them, but they don't really have a home base. At almost all the college games I've ever been to, the cheerleaders stay put, and they are by the students and the band. I actually watched our cheerleaders battle for space with the opposing cheerleaders because they were in the same location, cheering to the same fans. They should not be anywhere near each other!
Imagine if they were by the students and band when they held up all those signs that say "Go Cats!" etc. Also...and this is a whole other topic...if our video board was better it could do a lot more to amp up the crowd.
+++++++++ ^^^^^^^^^^

I have harped on this to no avail for years!!!!!!!!!

If you're old enough to have this opinion, hopefully you appreciate how much better things are now than 15-20 years ago.

We love music at our house. It's on all the time - Rhapsody, Pandora, one of almost 400 CDs - and we go to tons of concerts. This is actually concert week here - Patty Griffin in Columbus last night, Mark Knopfler in Pittsburgh tomorrow, a Fur Peace ranch show Saturday and Sam Bush and four other acts as part of Mountain Stage in Mem Aud Sunday. But that stuff they play at our games isn't music. I'm with Doc on this one and watched the last quarter at home. We've spoken with the ad officials on many occasions and they just keep playing that crap. If I didn't enjoy sweet Lou saying first down Bobcats, I'd cut the cords on the speakers.
C'mon Alan. Can you truly claim this is concert week in the Swank household without including Paul McCartney's show in Columbus?
I've seen McCartney before plus you can't be in Pittsburgh and Columbus at the same time.

I'm 42 and my boys are 12 and 14. We all like a mix of music, but our house clearly prefers hip hop over classic rock. I'm surprised I haven't seen you guys outside Peden wearing sandals and black socks yelling at people to get off your lawns.
Agreed. I don't like it myself, but it's ironic that a bunch of old men are whining about this doggone newfangled music in a thread discussing how to retain the interest of younger people at the game. Anyone on this board is going to games no matter what. Hint: The music is not for you.

As to solving this problem, it's worth noting that this is mostly a nice problem to have -- at least students come to our games in the first place.
If you read closely, it's not only the kids who are leaving.

Very valid point - hadn't thought about that.

At the very end of the game last week I was truly surprised at the number of folks who stayed through the post-game band performance. We had friends with us who came for Homecoming and they are really band groupies. We don't usually stay for the post-game festivities. Some folks had come from other parts of the stadium to the tower side and took the seats of some who had left. There were easily over 5,000 people watching the 110. I was truly flabbergasted.

There were more who stayed than I have probably seen before. We came over from the other side of the field. We were going to watch from the tower section, but ended up in the wing due to the number of people.

Why flabbergasted? Beautiful weather, Homecoming, savior the victory a bit longer, let the crowd exit, hang around for an encore performance of the Most Exciting Band in the Land. I guess I wonder how many great Bobcats like you "don't usually stay for the post-game" If so, why not?

As a matter of curiosity, how many have never attended the 110 Varsity Show?

Dianne, my sis-in-law and Ohio classmate, flew up from Georgia. We stayed for the post-game band show. As she watched and listened to the combined 110 and alumni bands, she uttered a single word: "Awesome!"

We could be hosting A&M and leading going into the 4th quarter, many would still just sit there or leave early. Of course we all know the idea of leading A&M going into the 4th quarter is impossible.
You mean, except for that time in 2008 when we were leading Ohio State going into the 4th Quarter in their house...
