I think two stats demonstrate how much our D shut down Fiami:

(1) Fiami had only 87 yds rushing on 24 attempts (3.6 avg) BUT they had 43 yds on one play, meaning that they had 44 yds on the other 23 attempts -- less than 2 yds per attempt.

(2) Fiami had 166 passing yds on 25 attempts BUT 45 of the those were on one completion, so they had 121 yds on the other 24 attempts, or about 5 yds per attempt.

I'm pretty sure we knew the defense was solid during the preseason. With Johnson back and Poling playing out of his mind along with teams not even really throwing at Ian Wells the defense is not questionable.

The defense is only giving up 15.7 points a game, but now it's time for them to get tested. WMU, Buffalo, and BG all have very good offenses:
WMU - 28.8 points/game
Buffalo - 28.2 points/game
BG - 40.6 points/game

We'll see soon just how good this defense is.

All the more reason to keep that running game alive - control the ball, keep the other team off the field. We got a pretty good recipe.

Just reiterating what others have said. Poling is playing perhaps better than any linebAcker at Ohio ever has. Dbs are fast and don't miss tackles. Dline is strong and keeps assignments. Hats of to frank and Jimmy. We have a shot.

Poling still has some to work to do to be the best. Johnson is a stud. Matt Muncy, Tom Carder, and Chuk were great backers. Poling is a man-child so far. I don't know about the best.

I've been looking around at points given up,yards per game, turnovers forced and the Teams and offenses that they came against.

I think that Toledo is the only G5 school with a better track record so far on defense. So much for MACtion. If that's the matchup then maybe the MAC title game is ends 10-7 or something.

So many players to be exited about on D...Poling, Wells, Johnson, Brown, Laseak, Bashem, etc... How nice is it to have Jovon back?! If they can stay healthy they have a chance to be truly great.

Poling is the best LB all around. Even coaches say so.

Poling is by far the best MLB Ohio has ever had against the pass, in my opinion, but Keller and Muncy were better against the run, I think. All of them were/are good, though.

Just think how good Poling will be by the time he's a Senior.

I checked, and there is a little difference, but not as much as I had thought:
Muncy 6'2" 240
Keller 6'1" 245
Russell 6'1" 234
Poling 6'0" 235
