I mostly agree with your assessment. I'm not sure why Daz and Papi have moved ahead of AJ. I don't think he was in the game today until the 4th down play in the second Q. Then it was an obvious run. I think Daz and Papi are more effective in the slot as receivers or runners.

AJ is a stud, I believe Irons is a little bigger and faster and would be very effective at the end of games. He, AJ and Brown should get more carries. You really can't count out Daz because he runs so hard as well and he has very good lateral quickness.

"Ohio threw the ball because WMU was selling out to stop the run. They loaded the box, and dared Ohio to pass. If Vick had been able to hit some of those long passes early, WMU would have been forced to defend Ohio straight, and then the running game would have been effective. Ohio did try some runs early, but running into the teeth of the WMU defense was not effective.

Switching to the pass was appropriate, but unfortunately Vick was a little off on his passing early. As an example, there was a play where Cope was behind the defender. Hit him in stride and it's a TD, but it was slightly under-thrown, and the defender knocked it loose from Cope.

If Ohio is going to be a great team, they need to be able to beat whatever defense the other team uses. Ohio will see this defense again. They need to punish it when they do by hitting those long passes. Think Lousiana-Monroe, here. They tried the same thing, and got punished for it."

But this isn't about WVU. It's about where are program is. Ohio has failed to evolve as a program. We rarely, if ever beat a team with a winning record. 0-11 vs top half of the MAC since 2012. That is sad. We continue to "earn" bowl eligibility by beating lesser teams. We have grown stagnant as a program. We continue to recruit good to great MAC talent only to fall flat and short of greatness. Sound familiar? I'll use a Bobcat hoops reference...Larry Hunter anyone? We are the football equivalent of Hunter basketball going 19-11 every year.

It's unacceptable. We continue to get beat (and bad) by the best in this league. I watched a team who had just as much talent as the team they lined up against...and the coaching staff failed....particularly on offense. That game plan was complete garbage. You are lining up against a team that has proven to struggle against the run and Ohio throws it all over the place. Terrible. Explain to me why Ouellete had his first carry on the failed 4th & 1?!?! That is absurd.

And watch our pass offense. Nothing but horizontal bubble screens and quick slants. They are essentially running plays cause Vick never goes to a 2nd read. It's snap, turn, throw...no matter the coverage. After 6 games, it's pretty easy to pick up on that and learn to cover it. Rarely do they give him a chance to sit in pocket and look downfield unless it's a called-for deep ball like the one to Smith at end of half. You have to put offense in better position as a coaching staff. Tim Albin is overdue to be gone, but Frank will NOT replace him out of loyalty. Therefore this offense wil continue to be predictable, boring and unproductive vs even average defenses.

Daz Patterson is a change-of-pace RB...a slot RB. Why he continues to be our between the tackle guy is absurd. Ouellette proved he could do it last year, but for whatever reason he continues to be less and less part of the gameplan each week. Are we "rewarding" Patterson for being a senior? I hope not. He's reason we lost Papi White. Go back and watch KR where White got hurt...Daz didn't even attempt a block on guy who crushed Papi. Lazy play by a senior. Sums up his disappointing career.

Ouellette, Irons and Brown are guys who could've feasted on some downhill running plays vs this defense in first half. Could've taken some pressure off defense to remain perfect.

Losing Wells to that absurdly bad call was crippling...but losing Poling was worse. He's leader on that defense.

But honestly, how do they lay down like they did in 2nd half. Forget about the "all teams have letdowns"....that's inexcusable to play like that at 5-1 AT home. Coaching let's that happen. This wasn't a once-in-a-blue-moon moment...this has happened repeatedly over the years...these type of "letdowns"

We should be the elite program in this league for a number of reasons...but we are not. We're a middle of the pack program continuing to look up at Toledo, NIU, BG, WMU, CMU...a lot of schools who have experienced big changes in their program in recent years. Stability from our coaching staff has gotten us nothing but sustained mediocrity...something a lot of our fan base has become accepting of. I know it's better than the 2-9, 1-10 days, but I expect more from a program that continues to recruit well and invests money into the program with things like an indoor practice facility. I expect more from this coaching staff. We have more weapons on offense than we've had in years. Cut them loose. Find ways to put players in best position to succeed. This tired, predictable, unimaginative offense is dead...and will continue to drag this team down with it. We will struggle mightily to hang with BG and NIU home or away with this offense. We have 7-5 (IF they can regroup at UB) written all over us. Another underachieving "bowl eligible" season. Yay!

I'm not a "sky is falling fan". I'm just one who's seen this story before....and I'm tired of watching it. I saw it in the 90s with Larry Hunter and it was bad then. I expect more.

AJ is too slow to get to the line of scrimmage. When he has space and the time to get up to full speed, he can be a load to take down. But that 0-60mph latency is what is going to keep him off the field in games with above average defensive fronts. And particularly when they are stacking the box (like on Saturday).

I predict we'll see less AJ as the staff gains confidence in Brown and Irons...but there will always be a place for him as a change of pace or when the staff thinks he's a matchup problem for the defense.
