These programs started the season with the three (3) oldest head coaches in college football (Frank Solich, 71; Bill Snyder, 76; Steve Spurrier, 70).

None of these programs are in a position to claim the conference championship this season.

Conference Championships by Year:

- Ohio (1968, and 10 others prior)
- Kansas State (2012, 2003, 1934)
- South Carolina (1969,1933)

In 2012 these were the oldest coaches in 1a and if I recall they were three of the last 6 or 7 unbeaten. I think that it is crazy to argue that because a coach is old or has been there a long time that its a bad thing. Something is clearly happening that makes us get worse as the year continues. I do think part of it is a run of high injury seasons. Something else is happening and really don't think any of us know exactly what

What didn't help yesterday was two of Vick's throws were intercepted for a TD. If you erase both then the score is completely different. If you take out both our "running into the kickers" then the score is completely different. There's a lot of fluke stuff that happened, it wasn't just sucky play.

I've been wondering about the old coach thing for a while. Experience is great, but I wonder when being an old coach does have a negative influence when it comes to recruiting. Other schools tried to use that against SC according to Spurrier. I don't doubt that is a negative factor in the mind of some recruits. To think otherwise seems a little out of touch with reality. On the other hand, some recruits want to play for the old, experienced coaches. It may be a wash, but I kind of doubt it.

As far as the poll, none of those options are likely to happen anytime soon so I'm not voting.

Which team has beat a NO.1 ranked team in the country and many top 10's, South Carolina. Ohio can't beat the NO.1in the conference. Kind of hard to compare what South Carolina has done with what Ohio has done, look up top 25 finishes and wins against to 10's and you won't start a dumbass thread like this.
You fail to realize two facts, South Carolina finished 9 in country in 2011, 8th in the country in 2012 and 4 th in the country in 2013. If they win their conference it means they are a top 5 team in the country so this is a meaningless thread.

PhiTau, the last time I checked they don't hand out a prize for beating the #1 team or finishing "top 10".

And considering the focus of so many on this board is a prize, I think the thread may have meaning to some.

There are well known teams out there who go decades without winning any conference or national championships (South Carolina for example). Yet these programs have fans who will return an impassioned defense for their championshipless programs (PhiTau).

I say all this having had no original intent that anyone would read so deeply into the poll.

This seems to be a common theme on this messageboard where much is read inbetween the lines that creates a "point" the original poster was not making.
