Will Beamer be next old timer to go?

I was surprised when Miami hired Golden. Yes, he had winning seasons at perennially weak Temple. But he had NO wins over a MAC school with a winning record.

O'Leary must be shaking his head at how things are turning out. He had UCF doing well in recent years, then this year the bottom - winless - fell out.

Beamer is in poor health and I say it is 50-50 at best that he returns.

Near 50% of the ACC might be fired/retire/move on to better opportunities. A bunch of universities with unreasonable football expectations. The mid level/lower level of that conference has become no better then upper end MAC level programs. With TWO Big Ten openings likely after the season, couple of those mid-level guys might jump.

A lot of AAC coaches are being mentioned as likely to move up. Should be an interesting off season as usual

Campbell's probably going to move on from Toledo and Babers will at least get a look. Fleck will probably land a higher-up job, although I don't understand the fascination with him. After a 1-11 first season, they jumped to 8-5 last season but lost to every team with a winning record they played except for BG and CMU. They even lost to Purdue, which CMU beat. Same for this year.

The attraction with Fleck is easy to explain. He's an outstanding recruiter. There is much more demand for great recruiters than great coaches. Thus, for example, you saw guys like Ron Zook and Mack Brown rise up the coaching ladder, and a guy like Bill Snyder stay at Kansas State.

In addition to those already mentioned, off the top of my head, here are some former P5 coaches that might want to take a stab at a major college HC job again:

Ed Orgeron
Butch Davis
Lane Kiffin
Bo Pelini
Houston Nutt
Mark Mangino (just fired as Iowa State's OC)
Jim Caldwell (probably going to be fired by the Detroit Lions)

Of those, it seems that the Miami fans want Butch Davis, although Miami's problem is protecting the South Florida recruiting grounds. Orgeron is a master recruiter and would fix that quick.

Davis probably is the next best choice from those, although the mess he left at UNC would keep him off my short list.

I listen to Davis almost every day on Sirius radio, and he doesn't sound real eloquent or enthusiastic, but he has lots of support from what the callers are saying. Somebody taking Pelini or Kiffin would be taking a chance that most schools would avoid I would think .

I would not be surprised if Snyder hangs it up as well. It's got to be getting old for him the second time around. He really is a great coach in my opinion. If only he was coaching where he could get top recruits, he would be one of the all time greats.

Snyder built KSU on outlaws an JC's at a time when the big boys did not take JC's. He's worked no magic that 95% of schools would want on their campus in an age of the Internet. Some of his early teams had more 2 year players than 4 year guys.

As for Butch Davis, Miami has been there and done that.

Snyder used a lot of JC players for sure, but were they outlaws anymore than the ones we still recruit to fill gaps. When you are recruiting to Manhattan, Kansas, you take who you can get. Comparing KSU's recruiting needs to the big boys is a little disingenuous, don't you think? What exactly do you use as a source of your outlaw remark? Did the kids get into trouble while at KSU?

This question just came to me - colobobcat and lc - when was the last time you gentlemen were in Athens for a game? I'll throw bcat in there too.

Marshall and western Michigan in Athens. Moscow and Minneapolis in the road. How about you? I've travelled about 5,000 miles to see Ohio this year. Is that enough for you? Ask Monroe how many times he's been there. Not really since that's a rather insulting question.

Oh let's see, 34 All Americans and 46 academic All Americans sounds pretty good to me. Just a bunch of outlaws. Wow.

Interesting article...my take away is the number of lost practices at the U as a result of not having IPF.
