After last night's debacle versus BG, I think we can all agree it's time for changes.

-Maybe it's time for us as fans to go back to only expecting to be entertained enough by football to get to the 110 halftime show?
-Perhaps it's time for fans to change our expectations of the football program?
-Is it time for changes in how recruiting is done?
-It might be time for changes in play calling or scheme.
-Maybe it's time to change methods in training to avoid the injury bug excuse?


I don't pretend to know the answers to what needs changed. I'm not going to call for heads to roll, because I don't know who would most likely need replaced for improvement to happen. What I do know, from my own perception, is that they've been doing things in a fairly similar way for the last 3 seasons, and have gotten similar average, to slightly above average, results. The first things I would be looking at is why they're starting a walk-on at tailback ,and why they can't seem to recruit a quarterback or two. (don't get me wrong, he's a great kid, but the difference in athleticism from him to most good MAC RB's is noticeable in my opinion). Since I know the last 3 weeks of results aren't what they want, something has to change. As I said on Twitter last night:


"It's time for Frank to do a serious soul search on how they do everything. Completely out classed for the 3rd straight game."

If 7-5, or 6-6 is the goal, then so be it. That just means we as fans have to change our expectations. If it's not the goal, and I don't believe it is, then it's time for an evaluation of how everything is done, from recruiting, to training, to play calling and every coach in every position group. They can't keep doing things the way they have been and expect improvement next month, or next season.



(note for context: I'm not in the camp of Frank is the greatest thing in the world, nor am I in the camp of Frank must go.)

Not until this last loss to BG have the vast majority of posters here agreed that something needs to be done.

I agree we are all beating a dead horse that there should probably be a change in coaching staffs....

But up until this BG disaster there were still a vocal few that thoughts things were "just fine" and we were wrong to suggest something was wrong or something needed to change.

While it's overload to read these posts with the same tone over and over again....I will say it's good to finally see this message board pretty united in the fact that things aren't good.

For too long people tried to sugar coat things and the mere suggestion that things weren't good was met with "how dare you" reactions.

I will cheer like hell these last three games because I'd love for us to reach a bowl game.

The only positive from last night was that these kids fought all night....they were just outclassed, overmatched and outcoached. Effort was not an issue. Sadly it has been in the past...but these guys battled.

I just hope it doesn't become too much for them to keep battling....back-to-back-to-back blowouts tends to wear thin and I wouldn't be surprised to see some dissension.

Go beat Kent...get bowl eligible and then hope for the best vs. Ball & NIU.....and then hopefully on to a possible winnable bowl game

Now that I looked up compensation, the crazy thing is...Matt Lauer makes about the same as Ailes every year.

That's stunning to me.

At any program with any kind of aspirations for football success, this staff would have seen guys fired about two years ago. Get a clue; that's the real world as sad or ugly as it may be.

But here we are.

So, the smart move is to move one of the assistants to H.C. now--to test to see if one of the assistants has the stuff.

It is absolutely, 100%, completely, thoroughly, totally pointless to keep Solich on from here on in.

Unless we feel that (mostly from financial standpoint) we have to keep him on thru the end of his contract (thru next season, right?)....In which case, we're basically deciding to fold the program by dedicating to another year of really bad ball.


Or, pigs may get aeronautical and we'll find a qb and good O and D linemen and defensive secondary guys and be injury free next year. Except that we've no qb and our O-line will start a lot of new guys next year, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc

Ohio has had only one football coach with a winning overall record since Bill Hess retire and that is Frank. Jim Grobe finished at .500, but he was tying to bail before he left for Wake Forest. Is Frank a college hall of fame coach, no but he has won at Ohio.

I agree - focus on getting the best out of this season for the next three weeks.

AFTER THAT, it's time to evaluate what they're doing. I would not agree with the idea of promoting from within. Tough as it might be, I think it's time to shuffle up the coaching staff with young blood and to bring energy and ideas. For starters, I offer up the idea of hiring someone to the offensive staff whose only role is recruiting and developing a couple new QBs in the next two years. I'm not a football coaching genius, but it would seem to make sense that new blood from the outside is needed. Also, the way I see it from my chair, it's either time to change how they're doing it, or time for fans to go back to the expectation of going to the games until the 110 halftime show is done. I'm not willing to be the one banging my head against the wall in the same way, year after year.
