Wells is a lot like Mike Mitchell. Great skills and he likes to hit people. The one knock I have on him is he sometimes doesn't control his mouth; a senior should know better. That won't be such an issue in the NFL, though.

"Great cover corner." Good, from this I take that Ohio can have other acknowledged "play-makers" along with Poling. I notice Monroe is not lending his support to this "positive" thread. Wells, another two star recruit, with "only" two other offers; Akron & Toledo. Kudos to Wells. Kudos to the coaches for finding another "play-maker." There is a "Solich" mold these players fit and I include Basham, Sayles, Johnson, Laseak, Carpenter, Vick, Brown, Powell, Wood, Lucas, Lowery, McQueen, Watson, Heitzman, Smith, Tautuiaki, Reid, Cope, White, Sprague, Pruehs, etc. Proud to support them all.

Poling broke his leash a long while ago. I have a feeling Irons just needs to hone his pass protection to see earlier snaps. Blocking is not something you just show a RB and they do it. Like a good pulling guard, some seem to get it sooner, some later. Patterson is not the ideal, Irons does have better size, but, Patterson does see/feel the pressure and in a blink is between the pressure and Vick. No doubt there is plenty of practice evidence on who is best at finding Basham/Laseak or Poling/Johnson/Brown when they are a fraction of a second from the pocket.

I don't know that it is pass protection that is holding him back. To me the area he could improve is on his inside running. In high school he could bump everything outside and use his speed and balance to get big runs, but at the FBS level the defenders are faster and better tacklers, so you can't always run outside. Sometimes you need to just put the pads down and burrow ahead and try to move the pile. This is a place Daz and AJ both excel. It's just a matter of Irons adjusting to the FBS level, and in time Irons is going to be a beast.

Getting back to Wells, Wells is a guy that showed up in one of the travelling camps and impressed the coaches, so he got an offer. That's the same way a lot of this year's recruits were offered. This year's class isn't a bunch of 3-stars, but they are mostly players that the coaches have seen live and in the flesh. If they turn out as well as Wells, it will be a good class.

It's also worth remembering than back in 2012 Wells was one of three Freshmen corners. Bass was one of the others, and the third was Lorenzo Fisher. It's a shame that Fisher had off the field issues because he was talented, too.

We clearly have good backs with different styles and strengths, but we've run the ball better the last couple games because the offensive line has done what we expected all season.
