Poling has been healthy and played 6 full games this year (Minn. doesn't count - held out for a half). In those 11 games OU defense has averaged giving up 11 pts/game. In the three games Poling was out it was 51 pts/game. The competition played into that, but it is clear the D has a completely different personality when he is in. With Poling, Balls and NIU are winnable. And, of course, he just limped off the field...

I'm guessing he's OK. He was smiling on the sidelines. I totally agree, though, that he's makes a huge difference. If you had any doubts the respect he has from the other players on the defense, when he started limping, every defensive player nearby rushed to help carry him off the field.

In Hong Kong now. Just finished 'watching' the win on ESPN's real-time play by play. Ugh, what a crappy and frustrating way to 'see' a game. But I did get to watch the actual video highlights. Given Kent's usually stout D, I was surprised Ohio's game plan leaned so heavily on the run - and successfully.

Vick said Kent State double teamed Smith, Reid and the TE as the game plan. He told the staff that he needed to run more QB draws to keep the defense honest. Won 1 on 1 matchups with the running backs.

Clearly our best defender and gave the team a huge lift tonight. We are a different defense when he is on the field.Fantastic instincts and a great tackler. Amazing how he steps in for those picks.

Even when he's not 100%, hobbling around out there, he's still our best defensive player. The instincts, awareness, and physicality are so impressive. Really fun Bobcat to watch.

Devin Jones was also exceptional at corner today.

Tweets at Arkley that he's fine after hobbling off the field last night. Good news.

We benefited greatly from their four days of rest coming off a brutal loss. It's a disgrace that the conference makes any team play games so close together.

Oh please. They played Thursday at home and we played Wednesday on the road.
One day's difference.

Kent played Thursday, then again Tuesday, while Ohio played Wednesday then Tuesday. Ohio had one more day of rest, so it wasn't as uneven as it might have been. This isn't as bad as when they made Ohio play thtee games in twelve days a few years ago, but I would agree that five days between games should always be avoided.

Poling is as good a player as I have ever seen. Mark me down for that comment. This young man is a special talent. Reminds me a little of Zach Thomas. Always around the ball, physical, lateral quickness and instinct. You could call out 3-4 obvious plays only he could have made. However, there were more like 6-8.

The Bengals have Burfict who brings the same impact (at the NFL Level). Really has a feel for the play calling and always being around the ball.

The Bengals only gave up 10 points/game with Burfict healthy. I don't know what that stat translates to for us but it feels like he has that kind of impact.
