That kid went Marshawn Lynch on BGSU, and he can't get on the field. This staff has their guys and they are loyal to them to a fault. Irons has pro talent, he needs to be playing. You have got to be kidding me.

I agree. The time is now to just give up on the older guys. Let's look to the future. It's time for Provitt to be in on every defensive play. It's time for Croutch and DiCillo to be in on every LB down. It's time for AJ Ouellette and Maleek Irons to be in for every down of running the ball.

Does Irons lead the team in Rushing TDs? As a guy that only sees the field every other game for a couple of plays? What a travesty.

He would if the coaches played the best running back every week, but they don't It is time to tell the other running backs you did good, it is time to let this man-child that we got lucky recruiting play. He is 6'0 221 with high 4.4 speed and he breaks tackles. If they had open tryouts and these backs showed up he would win. Since AJ played last year and was reliable and Daz is a senior, the coaches turned a blind eye towards him. If Roger lewis came here, he probably wouldn't start.

If Irons is not living up to his responsibility as a person wearing the Ohio uniform, then just kick him off the team. I fail to see how playing him at the end of games that are already decided helps the team out one bit. Either play him during parts of the whole game, or don't allow him to dress. The personnel decisions are quite puzzling to me.

The BG defender in the endzone threw his hands up, he couldn't believe he broke so many tackles. The coaches need to play the best players, that kid is a monster.

Daz definitely has a place. He was very effective last night.

It's important to note that Irons did that against the second-string defense of a team that wasn't very good against the run to begin with, but nonetheless, it was very impressive and I hope it merits him more carries.

It was impressive and I do really like Irons's potential. But against BGSU's back-ups, most of what Ohio tried was working well (Sprague and Bo Hardy also ran well in the fourth quarter). So it's a little unclear how that will extend to other situations.

I was just impressed with the tackle-breaking ability. Regardless of the the second/third string, it's hard to break that many tackles on a long run.

Dude seems markedly different from anyone we've put on the field in a long time.

Irons continues to play well, and continues to earn more playing time. In my mind, last night Irons probably moved up a spot, and now should be ahead of Brown. Note, though, that AJ had some good runs Wednesday, as did Daz. The sixth string running back, Bo Hardy, also looked pretty good, averaging 8.7 yards/carry, playing against the BG reserves, so you have to factor that in. (Hardy is one of the fastest players on the team, and is on the traveling squad because he's a regular on special teams, not because they expect to play him at running back).

I don't get all this talk about the staff ignoring Irons. They continue to say positive things about him. They continue to play him, and as he has played well, they continue to play him more. That all seems pretty normal to me. I'd say it looks like they see a lot of potential there, and they are trying to develop it.

...and, for the record, I'm the first one on BA to predict that he will someday be an NFL player, and to compare him to a prior Heisman winner. He has not disappointed me yet, and I still see greatness. On the other hand I also appreciate that it is rare for players to start as a freshman, especially when the players ahead on the depth chart are good. He will get there.

i'm a huge Maleek booster being from Vancouver, Canada (his hometown) and having seen him play live a couple of times... but i have to say i tend to agree with you. there are worse things Solich could do than not playing a stud freshman tailback too much. alot of teams bring along freshman pretty slowly for alot of reasons. even ones that might arguably be the best player.

i have seen alot of high school football, albeit very little at the highest texas/florida/california levels, but Maleek is unlike anything i have ever seen.

in case anyone wonders, i don't know Maleek nor do i have any connection, even indirect, to him. just read about him in newspaper and went to watch him play 2 HS football games.

my slight worry about Maleek would be that he might be looking at Pac12. he wanted to go there badly i think but the only one that offered or came really close was WSU.

i would think he'd be a layup for Oregon State.

having said that not very many NCAAF players seem to do the "prove themselves and then move to a bigger school".. NCAA basketball it's become an epidemic.... guys transfer alot in football but i don't think they transfer UP very much.

It's a joke that Irons isn't getting prime minutes. Anyone who has watched us and believes otherwise is making a good case for not being very astute.

We'd leave Jim Brown on the bench because, you know, there are some good running backs here who've been here longer than Jim.

Indications are that Irons is a talent the likes of which we haven't seen in a long time. Insert him until that's proven wrong--that would be the smart way to proceed here.

Proceeding other ways would be less than smart, less than career enhancing for those espousing such an approach.

What's our identify? Are we a running team? Passing team? Do we play field position and Defence? When I watch this team play I am at a loss to understand what we do best.. I'm not sure a real commitment is made to any one aspect of the game. I have seen several nice runs with a gain of 6, 8 yards on first down only to be followed by two straight passing attempts with a sack and a punt. One thing I know about O lineman is that run blocking is what they love to do. Being physical up front is usually a good way to develop an identify as a football team. We have been playing high powered offences and the best remedy to at least try and keep the games close is to run the ball and eat clock shortening the game.... The commitment to do this consistently just isn't there. Now to Irons, the eye ball tests tells me he has a blend of skills no other back posses on this team. He is that physical back with break away speed that O lineman love blocking for because only a small crease is needed and he's off to the races. Its time to take a different approach on O as defensively with injuries we just haven't been holding up.

Irons does not need to transfer to the PAC 10, rb's get drafted out of the MAC every year, he just needs to get carries. If he were able to put together two god season's with his size and speed, he could easily be a second or third round pick. He could get lost in the shuffle at OSU, he definitely should not get lost in the shuffle at Ohio.
