When I first heard the news, I thought, "Charlotte?" But it's not really about coach Albin moving on to Charlotte. It's that he was going to go somewhere. Such is the plight of the mid-major program when the coach reaches this level of success, for the most part.

MAC takes the most hits in the portal. To do what he did this year on a consistent basis, is a hard task.

Whoever takes the job has to understand Ohio will be the team that gets plucked the most in the MAC. Unless we leave the MAC.

It’s about Ohio and whether the board of trustees will decide to keep up with the American, Sun Belt, and CUSA or not.

The core problem is, how does Ohio build up a fan base that supplies a sufficient revenue stream to compete. It can't all come from fees. If Ohio was filling Peden every week at $80 a seat, that would be $11 million in ticket revenue. Right now Ohio probably has $1 million a year in ticket revenue. How do you pay a coach $2 million a year, play NIL to the players, and pay expenses when your revenue from a single away games is about the same as your entire year's home ticket revenue?

Until Ohio finds someone who can pack Peden, they will have to get used to hiring new coaches periodically, some because they fail, others because they succeed.
