Marshall winning the Sunbelt championship by about the same score that OHIO beat Miami, and reports are that he has not been given a new contract at MU, and will be somewhere else next year. One story has him at another SBC school — Southern Mississippi. There’s a lot happening today in college football that makes not sense to me. Have we entered the Twilight Zone, perhaps.

Marshall was ready to fire him after he started the year 3-3. Obviously their opinion of him hasn't changed.

He was making basically the same money as Albin. Anyone think he’s worth giving a call?

Thus is true, but does it make sense? You don’t change your opinion when the facts change and your coach wins his conference? And, Huff beat Notre Dame just two years ago.

We could certainly beat out USM.

Are you sure about that? Favre still isn’t in prison, he can probably find some welfare money to pay him.

But seriously, if true seems like somebody we should call. 41 years old, experience in the MAC on his resume, experience at Penn State and at Alabama under Saban. He can just stay on the bus and continue on to Athens after it stops in Huntington.

I think Cromer should ask both of us to serve on the search committee.

There is a large section of the fanbase that thinks we should have players like Chad Pennington and Randy Moss every year and be in championship contention annually on 1/10th the budget of a mid-tier ACC school. They're never happy, regardless of who is coach.

I think Huff ran a disciplined, classy program, and I wish him nothing but the best in the future.

Is Chad Pennington leaving Sayre (the school that Brock Coffman just won a state title in Kentucky)?

Marshall announces Tony Gibson as their new head coach. That was fast.

Who would have thought 20 years ago when Marshall accepted an invite to CUSA that by 2024 they would have decreased stadium capacity, moved to the SBC and have lost their coach to Southern Miss? Obviously wildly different variables but still.

They must have had a contingency plan already prepared. Great idea. :)

They non-renewed his contract. He knew he was out and they were already looking. Marshall’s HC did not leave by choice. And if your choice is the DC at WVU?!?! Let’s get them on the schedule.

BTC, I realized he had been on shaky ground at least since the early part of the season due to what was perceived as a slow start so it was not an apples to apples comparison. However, and correct me if I’m wrong, but I don’t think that we have heard anything officially from the athletics department about any plan going forward for his replacement, or even acknowledging he’s gone for that matter. Even a simplistic “plan” of where we are and “we are on it” would be nice.

Marshall and Huff were at impasse on the contract negotiations. One rumor was that Huff didn't want a buyout clause in the new contract which was unacceptable to Marshall. One rumor is that Huff previously didn't accept two extensions for whatever reasons. Huff was looking to move up the food chain since he was hired. No problem with that, any good coach is not going to stay at G5 school when he can make a lot of money at a P5 school or an AAC school in the case of Ohio U.

Apparently when Huff started talking to Southern Miss not long ago, then the President of Marshall decided it was time to move on from Huff. Marshall began searching for a new coach right after they found out about the USM negoiations. Marshall found their candidate and signed him before the SBC Championship game.

Huff and his agent thought there would be better options for a new job, but that didn't materialize. Maybe Huff was using USM as a bargaining tool? In the end, Huff wanted to stay at Marshall, but Marshall had made the decision not to give him a new contract. I am sure Huff was hoping for a better job then USM, but in the end it was his only option.

Personally I had hoped that a comprise could have been made between Huff and Marshall. Huff is a master of the portal and his players love him. He recruited players who were never had problems or arrests. He isn't the best game day coach but he was improving.

Marshall players are now entering the portal and the bowl game against Army is going to be ugly.

Not true, Huff was never going to be fired. Marshall was happy with his coaching.

See the previous post about why Huff's contract was not renewed.

Marshall very rarely fires a coach, they wait until the coach's contract expires so they wouldn't have to pay the coach the rest of his contract. LOL
