This exchange between Monroe and I somehow started on the basketball forum after I made mention that the OHIO victory over a not so good Indiana team didn't really count because it would be a win over a team with a non-winning record at the end of the season. The subtle jab was too much for Monroe to resist. So the following exchange occurred which angered many on the basketball forum because it was not appropriate there. It is here. Monroe's questions to are in quotes. Follow by my response.
"1) How many years of no MACC with Solich will it take for you to re-assess...11, 15, 19? I'm serious. At what point will you begin to doubt?"
Not really a relevant question. If we keep having winning years, we'll get back to the MACC soon enough. If we lose another close MACC as we did the last time, I'll be upset, but I won't be calling for Solich's head. If we had several losing seasons in a row, I might say we should start looking, but I think you're going to see multiple ten win seasons in the not too distant future. The program is building it's not on a downward spiral. We had two years -- 2013 and 2014 -- that were atypical for various reasons that you refuse to accept. No need to explain that all over again, because you'll ignore it just like you did the previous ten times.
"2) At whatever point we go to hire a new football coach, if he comes to us with no conference title in 11 years, with the latest four carrying a lot of mediocre, will you be quite pleased?"
Your questions get more obtuse all the time. This one takes the cake. You cherry pick the last three years and ask a question about a replacement coach with a similar record as though those three years define Frank's career. They don't. Frank came here fairly fresh off a National Championship game. He lost that game badly. Just as he's lost some recent games. Nebraska was stupid enough to fire him after a 9-3 season (10-4, including bowl game). If a coach with Frank's career record had a few bad seasons and we hired him on the rebound, like we did Frank, I'd say it was another great hire by OHIO.
"3. I do admire your ability to shift to a lesser goal (bowl wins..whatever) when Solich can't satisfy the main criteria of occasional MACC and generally at or near top of the conference."
I admire your ability to cherry-pick data and then ignore that cherry-picked data when the facts change. See former mantra on no wins over MACC teams with winning records in the last 2.5 years. ;-)
"4. At least I'm consistent in my standards."
No you are not, as the above clearly shows, and as many, many on this board have pointed out to you on many occasions. You decided Frank was over the hill, and you selectively muster facts (and opinions) to support your conclusion. If we win the MACC next year, you'll come up with other selective facts to support your Frank should retire now thesis.
"5. I'd pm you on this so as not to annoy others but during your pique of the fabulous Beefs, WMU, BG run you closed off channels of communication...apparently because the facts got uncomfortable for you."
I got really tired of hearing your same mantra over and over again with nothing really new and then your quite apparent glee over the bad stretch we were experiencing. You were clearly trying to use those games as "I told you so moments" and you were relishing it rather than being a little bit depressed about it as I was, and as many OHIO fans were. I didn't give up hope, but I was annoyed by your using this downturn as an occasion to advance your fire Frank agenda. I'm really happy that it boomeranged in your face.
