While I know the spread favors BG by 12 which is a significant amount I would still take BG with the points.
NIU is hemorrhaging from injuries at the skill positions particularly QB. While their 3rd string QB looked good at the end of our game it was, let's face it, garbage time.
This game is different and this QB will struggle. I wouldn't be surprised to see BG get off to a fast start and cause NIU to play from behind, a real tall order for a freshman QB.

Take BG with the points.

I just visited NIUs fan site

http://csnbbs.com/forumdisplay.php?fid=468

It doesn't appear they have any additional insight on who the starting QB will be. It's still either Graham (hurt in the game against Ohio) or Fiedler, who burned his redshirt in the last quarter of the last game of the regular season but played pretty well considering the circumstances. I think based on experience (victory against Toledo, WMU, and Buffalo), Graham would be the better choice if he can go, but I'm also hoping Fiedler will get a little more mileage out of his eligibility and show some surprises.

Neither QB was highly touted out of High School with Graham only having the NIU offer and Fiedler having none and being a walk on.

Either way, it's going to be tough to beat BG's all-MAC Johnson and their high scoring offense.

I don't know. BGSU under Babers seems to **** the bed in the high pressure games, whereas NIU thrives in these kind of games, at least within the MAC. Maybe injuries give Bowling Green the edge but I actually like Northern Illinois' chances in this game.

If the game were outside, I'd factor NIU, but inside really helps BG.

I'm torn about this game. My gut wants NIU to win because it makes OHIO look better. However, one of my best friends is a BG graduate who told me he rooted for OHIO to beat NIU because of our friendship. So, I guess I'll just be happy whoever wins.

Looks like BG took note of what A.J. did to NIU up the middle.

As easy as NG scored their last two TDs vs a healthy NIU defense, I'm surprised we held them to 62.

NIU has too many guys trying to do too much, probably to make up for having an inexperienced QB. Too many dropped balls from trying to run before catching it. Shows they're pressing too much.

Should be an interesting GoDaddy with a pair of offenses like BG and Georgia Southern.

Don't look now but BG cuts it to 2 TDs with a pick 6. In our game I kept thinking we could get one of these picks on the sideline passes but we never did.

BG played one of its more mediocre games tonight and still was way too much for an undermanned NIU. I still don't think NIU would have won even at full strength but congrats to BG.

Some on this web site claimed our win over NIU with their 5th string QB was our greatest MAC win ever, pretty funny but true. We also beat Marshall's 2nd string QB, he was replaced as the starter after our game because he sucked.

Some background for you. The NIU QB, Graham, that started vs Ohio took over the NIU team in the Toledo game and led NIU to 2 late TDs for a come from behind win. Next he beat Buffalo. Next he beat Western Michigan. By the time Ohio knocked him out of their game Ohio had 4 sacks on him and was in control. Please do not deny that the Ohio players took a good win from a good team. NIU came in with a QB/team that had beaten Toledo, Buffalo and Western Michigan. I think NIU was missing a DT, but, before Graham was hurt, were not the Bobcats already playing Windham. Why would you even want to belittle a win over NIU?

Yes. Please don't deny these players. They worked so hard and deserve better from their "fans"

So it appears Ohio's depth beat NIUs depth. While Ohio beat what has been referred to as 4th and 5th string QBs, with regards to this season, it was mostly 2nd and 3rd string since 2 QBs were down already before the season started (from what I've read) and the 1 and 2 (overall 3rd and 4th) for NIU were really legit ones and twos based on NIU's record and their performance?

Or do you feel this is a bit of a stretch along the lines of the "Ohio beat Ohio State 6 degrees of separation" exercise?

If I remember right, bshot, it was you who was arguing the NIU win was the greatest MAC win.

To be fair, Ohio was down to its 3rd string QB in beating NIU on the road. It's certainly not like Ohio was at full strength for that game either.

And, Marshall knocked OUr #1 and #2 QB out of the game.

OUr team has suffered more than its fair share of injuries in each of the past four years. If you discount some wins due to opponent injury you need to discount a lot of OUr losses.

To be honest, it was the NIU QB & team that had beaten Western Michigan the game before. No excuses needed. Ohio sacked Graham four times and knocked him out. Ohio ran all over NIU something Western could not do. NIU ran for 289 vs Western the week before and could only get 73 vs Ohio. There were no blue smoke and mirrors. Ohio lined up and beat NIU, old school, credit Williams, Johnson and all of their charges.

This is not an entirely accurate representation of either event:

1. OHIO played most of the game against the NIU second string QB who had started several games before ours and was credited with their win over Toledo.

2. Birdsong, according to many on the Marshall boards, was not replaced "because he sucked" but because he was injured. Many on those boards sounded like some on this board who claimed that the new guy was obviously the best but that dumb Doc wouldn't have played him at all if not for the injury. Sound familiar? Some said the same thing about AJ. Coaches too dumb to realize AJ's talents but all the fumbles led to his playing, otherwise he would have rotted on the bench. Lot's of incompetent coaches in these parts. ;-)

For the record, I disputed the claims that an NIU win would be one of our greatest ever. I said it would be a very good win, but not a top win.

Yes I did. And I still stand by that.

NIU team that played last night was a shell of the team Ohio beat. That Fiedler QB played about 10% of Ohio game. Had he played entire Ohio game, I would've obviously changed my tune on that win. They're a very different team with a 3rd string freshman QB

If we had healthy Sprague or Vick going against Fiedler for an entire game, our score last week is more along the lines of the score last night.

Yup. Would've been much more lopsided
