Interested in the boards thoughts. During Nebraska's bowl game a Nebraska Safety was ejected for "Targeting." If you saw the play I am interested in your thoughts. There was a long review, which, help up the call. The commentators disagreed with the call. I usually side with the officials, this time I think that was a good tackle.

In my opinion, that's a clean hit. I suppose the only "safe" thing to do is for the tackler to go low. What may result in an increase in lower-body injuries: knees, ankles.

Going low I once broke another players leg. It is a rough game.

Picking up on the only safe thing to do, perhaps we'll see a rule in the future that the helmet of the tackler must stay below the top of the shoulder pads of the player being tackled.

To me the defender made a good defensive play. The receiver no doubt saw the hit coming out of the corner of his eye and instinctively ducked. Had he not ducked, the defender would have hit him in the chest and shoulder, but because he did, there was some helmet to helmet contact. Does that turn a good defensive play onto a penalty? I don't claim to understand the rule, but apparently it does.

They need to review the targeting rule this year. In these cases, the defender is always to blame. There were times this season where the ball carrier initiated the helmut-to-helmut contact but the defender was tossed for targeting. By all means they should try to cut down on concussions but they should also use some common sense.

To show how crazy our society has become.

A friend of mine's son played football for an FCS school.

Tackled a guy,clean hit,but broke his leg.

The injured kid's parents sued the school and him.

The school had no liability, doesn't seem possible, but they didn't, so they went after the kid's parent's home owner's insurance.

Took years to get it resolved and the injured kid got a settlement.

That's amazing. Predictable, but amazing.

No shades of gray with R. Fox. Only absolute confidence in a 100% point of view. No tolerance for possibility of other.

That's not true Monroe. He has changed/modified his opinion on several issues when presented with facts with which he was not familiar/not aware. Yes, he leans East Tennessee right but he does listen.

And, you my dear sir, are a paragon of always listening to other points of view and then modifying your opinion based on new information that you are presented with. You listen so well and are completely open minded. In fact, you are so flexible that many on here confuse you with the rubberman in the Bible who tied his ass to a tree outside the city wall and then walked into the center of town. ;-)
