Word on the App State site was that the game is a sellout, so if Ohio didn't sell their allotment, they could have turned the tickets back in for them to be sold by others.

That's awesome, should be a great crowd, thinking we will end up with 5,000+ fans with the students bussing down.

I read last week that App St sold it's first allotment in a day or so and were getting a second allotment, so maybe that's what they meant by a sellout.

Heard that App State sold in excess of 4000 and that we're under 400. Anyone hear the same thing?

Remember, Alan, that for whatever reason, a lot of OHIO fans in the past have bought bowl game tickets from the bowl and not through the OHIO ticket office. So, if your figures are from the ticket office, they may not reflect total sales.

I don't know what the stadium seats but my guess is it won't be a sellout. But I have to imagine we will have a few hundred student tickets alone. So my unofficial guess is maybe upwards of 1k Ohio fans will be at the game, which is not bad considering the difficult travel and cost to get there.

As I recall, I think the Athletic Dept. said that the full allotment of 8 bus loads were sold and they were taking names for a waiting list. Don't know what the final count is.

8 busses equals roughly 275 students depending on bus size.

Rcd an e-mail this evening from the ticket office still trying to sell tickets for kids. I am already in, but, it indicates they are still working sales.

Some sources list the stadium's capacity at 25,000, although I also saw a source listing capacity as 21,000. Either way, not a very big stadium so I can see the place being sold out.

I've wondered the same. My assumption is that the hotel portion of the package is the limiting factor.

My guess is limited hotel space and cost. The university is already taking a big hit sending eight buses down.

By that measure, what have bowl games EVER amounted to? In days of old when advertising wasn't the title sponsor of all bowl games, what was the measure of success then? The vast majority of bowl participants weren't racing for a "national title." If you won the Cotton Bowl, you won the Cotton Bowl. That's it.

You make a very good point Robert but in 1968, the last year we won a MAC championship, there were 11 bowl games - 22 teams. You had to be very good, very good to get an invitation.

Today with 80, you don't have to be very good at all. Except for the marquis bowls, the others are just like the many channels on cable tv - so much noise. All of this was posted in the context of ticket sales and how insignificant the number is that we have actually sold to people who are going to the game. The basketball tournament is a different thing and we sell way more tickets to attendees of that tournament.

Unfortunately, we talking about football, not basketball, do the comparison doesn't work well. G-5 teams have virtually no chance to play for a national championship in football. To say any game "really does not mean anything" is sad in my opinion, but shared by many.

I also have to ask, using her rational, what did that basketball game mean last night? Nothing to do with a national championship, that's for sure.
