I could care less what the other team does as I only worry about our image. Our action not only showed a lack of class but also cost us penalties that kept their drives alive. The hit on the targeting call was totally unnecessary as the ball was already by the receiver. This has nothing to do with how they used to call it. I have said this for many years now, if I was coaching and one of my players cost me a stupid penalty like taunting the other team, he would sit the remainder of the game. The second time he did it I would advise him to find another school. I don't understand a culture that you have to taunt someone. If you are good enough, your actions on the field will speak far louder and the opponent will have respect for you as well. Having said that, I don't expect everyone on this board to understand it.

On another note, I had a great time in Montgomery, the App fans were great, to include my daughter an App grad. My grandson who is 5 was wearing green and kept yelling O H I O in her face the whole game. I've trained him well!

I can't believe after years of watching a lifeless, boring, sedate Solich-style squad you old men are getting your feathers all in ruffle over our players showing a little emotion and passion in a big game. And really, you're offended by them mocking ASU's equally demonstrative showboating? really?
It's called showboating and grand standing and it's all about the individual player. That's why some on here had no use for a couple of recent basketball guards that we had. Old men tend to prefer an emphasis on team and the old Vince Lombardi quote (which for die hard Browns fans is hard to type) that when you go into the endzone, act like you've been there before. With all due respect, you'll understand that some day.

And, let me add that there is a world of difference between showing excitement and celebrating with your teammates after a good play versus showboating and taunting. If you don't understand the difference, you are a little immature PP.

seriously, this is the whinest nonsense I've ever seen. HOW DARE THEY JUMP AROUND AND SHOW EMOTION. HOW DARE THEY!!!!!!!!!111!!111!!!

*weeping ASU fan*- "and then *sniff* they pointed at the scoreboard *sniff* and were flexing *sniff* and it really hurt my feelings *sniff*, you know?"

*really old OU fan*- "We are SO sorry. That behavior is totally unacceptable. Back in my day young men used to change into suits on the sidelines before walking back to the locker room at halftime so they could walk by fans of the opposing team without being disrespectful. They would walk 2x2, carrying a bible in one hand and a white carnation in the other while quietly humming The Battle Hymn of the Republic. And they always made sure to keep their heads down so as to not inadvertently make eye contact with the fans. WHAT IS WRONG WITH KIDS THESE DAYS???".

I think there's an "oh come on" factor when you watch the behavior. Showing emotion is one thing, but if you say to yourself "oh come on" after a player does something that you think crosses the line, then it probably crosses the line.

Showing emotion to your teammates is entirely different from antagonizing the other team and their fans. All the latter does is fire them up even more than they already were.

Players don't get away with that crap on Bill Belichick's team, but what does that old man know, he's only won nearly half a dozen Super Bowls.

Players don't get away with taunting, etc. ON THE FIELD DURING A GAME on Belichick's team, which is obviously what I was saying. And it's true.

But since taunting the fans by players is now okay and is the new paradigm in college football, maybe Ohio should start to emulate the U of the 80's. Since that's where it's at now and is acceptable.

I originally came on here to find out how your fans were treated in the tailgate areas by our fans only to find one of our more "opinionated" posters leaving a bad taste in your mouth in regards to our fan base. I can assure you that he's not a high schooler but I can't speak as to why he types before he thinks. He probably hasn't come back on here since a poster equated him to a Marshall fan...which is probably the worst insult of them all as we hate those bastards too! As to the taunting at half time....I was right there and it was pretty bad (younger kids would say they were throwing major shade) but I call it showing your a$$ but app has done it too so we are not without sin. It's a poor design to run opposing teams into same area like that imop and that close to fans of the opposing team. Just wanted to say we enjoyed having ohio fans come over and sample some of our finer homemade recipe that is poured from a mason jar and even gave a few mini jars out to a few guys who came back for more. Hope everyone else from our side provided y'all with the best mountain hospitality possible.

When one attempts satire it is necessary to be close enough to actual facts to make your satire actually biting and humorous at the same time. You totally fail. Again, you also fail completely to realize or at least recognize the difference between exuberance and congratulating team mates and taunting an opponent. No one has said that being excited, high-fiving teammates and jumping up and down with excitement after a crucial first down, or TD is not a good and appropriate thing. That's totally different than taunting. Are you too immature to understand the difference?

I am with 86 on this one...I think App State would be a good addition to the schedule. I know we have recruited that area in the past. It could also be as good a rivalry as marshall!

Here it is folks, the Zapruder film that puts this issue to rest for good.

Watch at the 1:07:35 mark just before they cut away, the Ohio team is walking back to the tunnel minding their own business when you clearly hear a loud round of boos hurled at them from the ASU fans, then and only then, do the Ohio players begin waving their arms and gesturing in a "bring it on" way to the crowd.

I was right the whole time. Checkmate.

You know, I'm inclined to agree with you that their was at least equal taunting going on from the ASU fans. I know I heard a fair share of it, I would not at all be surprised if some of their fans were dishing to the players as well.

HOWEVER, that clip is about as definitive as the actual Zapruder film. I get nothing from that. I can't tell who "starts" it. You can see our players clearly gesturing toward the ASU sideline. You see the ASU players suddenly turn around to look at what was going on with the Ohio players trailing behind them (as opposed to looking into the crowd).

You might want to temper your "checkmate."

I see 1 ASU player turnaround and gesture to Ohio. Is he reacting to Ohio or is he taunting them? I see Ohio players celebrating with each other while still clearly out towards center field. Then I see a clip of most of the team walking towards the tunnel, not gesturing, when a loud chorus of boos rains down on them first. Undeniable. Clear as day. End of discussion.

I hope you never serve on a jury.

1:07:30 -- Before any boos are heard, Jovon Johnson is CLEARLY taunting the ASU crowd. At LEAST one other player joins him, but I can't see the number. Multiple players than start waving their arms while looking into the ASU crowd, which then prompts the boos.

1:07:35 -- I count at least three players and two coaches, all looking back at the oncoming Ohio players.

take off the tin foil hat. There is no great conspiracy of Ohio players acting "classless". its not there, it doesn't exist. J Johnson is not CLEARLY taunting the crowd. You have no idea what he is reacting to or what he is gesturing to.

THE ACCUSATIONS OF THE ENTIRE TEAM TAUNTING THE HAPLESS ASU FANS IS 100% FALSE.

There is a growing fallacy on this board, adhered to by a number of posters, that if you repeat a statement enough times, with enough self-assurance, you can claim that what you have said was conclusively true. This is not a correct assumption.

There isn't enough evidence to decide who did what. You can pick that footage apart all you want but no one knows if the Ohio players were reacting to something earlier. But in the end it doesn't matter. Football is an emotional game. Gone are the days in my youth where players would just hand the ball to the ref after a touchdown. Every play is celebrated now. Every play. My personal favorites are the celebrating defensive backs that gesture after making a big hit on a 20 yard completion. But what happened in the Camellia Bowl happens in nearly every game. Is it classless? Maybe but every team is guilty of it. Appalachian State was talking crap on the field just as much as Ohio. The reason they are making such a big deal out of it was that they were butthurt because they really, really thought they were going to kick our behinds and that didn't happen. Instead of lashing out at their own team they found another outlet. This applies to nobody more than the OP. Not sure if you noticed or not but their players taunted our fans after the game. So what?
