I'm curious about this also. But let's not allow a popularity contest to be used as in indicator of reality.


If the vast majority vote for any one option, that does not mean that option is an accurate characterization of the program.

As an indicator of the state of mind of the most avid Bobcat fans, this will be somewhat valid.


The underlying problem is that there are so few avid Bobcat fans.

None of the above. My vote-Up and down depending mostly on injuries to key personnel. Overall better than average for sure

Could not agree with you more on that!!! But at least there are more than there used to be.
There can always be more avid fans but when you consider the massive attendance problems Ohio University faced less than 20 years ago I think we can all agree the fan base has grown. It's important to keep having winning seasons and hopefully at some point win a MAC Championship.

There can always be more avid fans but when you consider the massive attendance problems Ohio University faced less than 20 years ago I think we can all agree the fan base has grown. It's important to keep having winning seasons and hopefully at some point win a MAC Championship.

I went with progressing slowly, and I expect to continue to see higher highs, and higher lows.

I went with being in the tailspin, after 2011 we have declined. While I believe we are in a tailspin, I don't think we need to change the driver, the driver needs to make adjustments. I certainly respect the progressing slowly folks, I hope that you are right and I am wrong. This should bring some clarity to our post. The in a tail spin folks want to see some change not necessarily the head coach. The progressing slowly folks believe the coaches have a good handle on the situation.

I'm the one vote for at the mountain top (to date) Beyond that, I think it can go either way. It all comes down to the QB. If Frank and this staff finds the right one, all will be well. If not, the masses will revolt. Its always about the QB. (Just ask us Browns fans)

Excellent post. College ball is a roller coaster ride. You seem to get that on this ride the track is being rebuilt with ever higher highs and higher lows. I could not say "mountain top as I think the coaster is currently ascending toward a new high. You are leading 23 with a positive outlook to this poll. Monroe is leading 7 with a negative outlook. Monroe stated "As an indicator of the state of mind of the most avid Bobcat fans, this will be somewhat valid." He would say, out of context, but, that is what he posted. He also posted, "The underlying problem is that there are so few avid Bobcat fans." I think he is wrong about that. Most would pass through here, get a taste of the general tone created by a very vocal minority, and, decide this is not a fun place to discuss Bobcat football. If this keeps up those five will be down to themselves and their dogs with whom to discuss football. Again, excellent post.

I voted for progressing slowly. Their is depth at the QB, WR and RB positions simultaneously for the first time. At QB their isn't a franchise QB but Frank is running a full 5 year development system at the position. T2 and Vick were the first QB's born and raised from the cradle to lead Ohio football. An all MAC QB isn't needed if there is good protection up front. There is some home that recruiting overall for the program can improve yet under Solich. The IPF has become a reality for the last 3 recruiting classes and its made a difference with the early signings. On ESPN radio yesterday they said Houston's victory in the Peach Bowl helps recruiting at Ohio's level. They dominated the most talented team in the country which ESPN radio said plenty of times about Florida State at the start of the season. Frank has added a block of tradition to the foundation of Ohio football with 7 bowl games and 80 wins.

An option for no progress was needed and many of the progressing slowly posters would be selecting it.

Also 20 years ago Ohio wasn't producing nearly as many alumni in SE Ohio as its doing today through continuing education programs. In the 80's alumni were unconnected with the university living far away with no reason to return. Access to Athens for Columbus alumni is improving with US33 improvements. There is more to do in the Hocking Valley than ever with wineries, zip lines, live music and microbreweries.

Uncle Wes, while I think you are right that we are graduating more SEO alumni now than in the past, OHIO has always had a fairly large continent of students from the area. In fact, OHIO was the first university in the state to develop a branch campus system. This system, started back in the 1950s, under president Baker, pretty much blankets SEO. You made the current situation sound like a quantum leap. I think it is more accurately described as a slow evolution.

My alma mater, Muskingum, has been doing this for years as part of alumni weekend, the third weekend in June. It's almost like a Chautauquau experience - minus the lake.
