Almost 8 hours since news dropped that Ohio posts a $362 profit on the Camellia Bowl and not a single black helicopter accusation.

Y'all slippin'!

It's clearly creative accounting and an inside joke referencing the import tarrif on an ounce of gold.

So how many were in the travel party? 100 players? 30 coaches? 20 trainers? 50 admin/ donors?

That's more than $1000 per person for the flight. But what else can you do? Commercial flights would be cheaper, but a logistical nightmare to coordinate travel for 200...

$18,645 in ticket revenue for last year's bowl?

We must have sold almost a thousand tickets!

It's nice to see the MAC is now in a position to cover some of the expenses of participating in the bowl games. This is common for the ACC, BIG, etc but in the past the MAC schools had to pick up the tab. I spoke to some folks that made the trip and they said it was a blast.

Things that can be bought with $362:

Personally, I'm going for the Sophia Loren framed picture.

If my sarcasm meter is accurate, I'm thinking that Monroe is having a little fun with this number. and I'm going to go along with it. this is the problem. you want "better" bowls? you have to buy tickets, hotel rooms, eat at restaurants. Someday, when we do have that magical season, where we go undefeated and schedule strongly enough to warrant BCS consideration, the committees will move heaven and earth to keep us out because of pathetic numbers like this. Right or wrong, that's the reality. They're not going to assume that 1k tickets will magically turn into 17k because it's the orange bowl. There is a ceiling to how far we can go unless there is a significant upswell in fan support.

The thing is, people that went to the bowl reported far more than 1000 Ohio fans there. So, the question that follows is, how does Ohio get Ohio fans to buy the tickets from Ohio instead of online, or whatever? Ohio made $362 as it is, but if there were 4,000 Ohio fans at the game, and half had bought the tickets from Ohio directly, Ohio would have made $20,000.

Those same people also claim that we really have 7-8K for each basketball game.

Regardless of what the number of Ohio fans is, they should all try to buy from the University instead of other places, as it does make a difference.

I was there. There were more than 1,000. I have no skill for estimating crowd size, but am absolutely confident there were well more than 1,000.

I'm my one experience in this matter, at the GMAC Bowl, I can certify that there were many more folks there wearing OHIO gear than bought tickets through OHIO. I don't recall the exact reason, but our party was among them. We bought our six tickets directly from the bowl itself, on line, and then picked them up at Will Call several hours before the game. There was quite a line when we picked up our tickets.

You know if you would have purchased your tickets through OHIO Athletics Ticket Office, you may have gotten that shuttle service from the hotel to the venue. ;-)

I was there and was glad to point out after the game that we defintely had a number bigger than what the ticket sales indicated. I believe I was guessing between 2500-3000. Of course, that's a better number, but not one that's going to make bowl committees need to change their underwear either.

No mention of bonus from Russell on that report. Wasn't that reported at 10k in a previous Post article?

Bowls generally get a cut from the tickets sold by the school or get a set "ticket buy". Wonder if the ticket profit is established after that accounting process....though the report does not give indication.

Arkley tweeted this comes in form of Russell gear. Not sure where Ohio applies that credit from accounting standpoint, but it is definitely another positive of the bowl trip.

That's true. I bought tickets through the OU ticket office when we played Central for the MAC championship and even the Central shuttle honored my ticket for a free ride to the stadium.
