That's a big blow. He probably was going to start at a position with the most question marks. But I don't fault him if his heart really isn't into it.

As deep and solid as the front 7 seems the secondary certainly has unanswered questions.

I don't think this was much of a blow at all. In fact, I think either Howelll or Fox were going to beat Provitt out of a starting spot in fall camp anyway. Further, Houchins was seeing a lot of time at CB in spring ball so he's an option there as well (and safety too). Plus Miller will step in and start at the other spot.

I like your confidence about the other guys. My guess based on not a lot of info is that losing Provitt definitely hurts, but that Ohio will probably be alright at CB.

Best of luck to the young man, I'm sure it wasn't an easy decision.

@OhioFootball Reloads Cornerback Position For Next Fall
Provitt top returning contributor

"Redshirt freshman Mayne Williams (Cincinnati, Ohio) and redshirt senior Kevin Houchins Jr. (South Euclid, Ohio) have also been taking reps at cornerback and could be in the mix at the position this fall."

I thought Provitt was more of a corner while Howell is lined up at safety.

I think this is a big loss. I'm excited about the youth we have in our secondary, but Provitt was certainly a piece of that.

Big loss here he was the best corner by far. His own choice to quit football Didn't want to risk injury like 120 other athletes on the team. Good luck

What is your point with, "like 120 other athletes on the team."?

I agree that this was a huge loss, but I respect his right to choose what is right for him. I wonder if we might see some switched from WR to CB, such as Seymour?

Prediction: Provitt will end up on a college football roster (most likely in Florida) within 12 months.

If i had to guess, I'd guess the reason for his decision may be that he's had a concussion or two, and decided he didn't want to risk more. I respect his decision, and would be surprised to see him playing football elsewhere. I think baseball is a more likely bet.

I followed langston on Twitter for a while after he signed and I can tell you that based on those tweets, he had a serious GF down there. I gave up following him, because I could care less, as they say, about his love life, but I figure that that had a little to do with his decision. Just guessing.

How many others did he observe with his teammates? I would like to know. Are concussions becoming an every game thing for someone? Is there always some player being held out for observation, what is it called, concussion protocol? During this past season I found the below link. It lists reported injuries by team. I was shocked.

According to sources he had several concussions in HS as well as having medical problems from last concussion at OU. He is really interested in baseball and will make an effort to play in sunny Florida. As more concussion research projects are completed this type of action by athletes will continue.
