Do you think the fact that we play the first bowl game of the season has prevented any defections yet among the players? It seems so surprising to have such a successful team and not have it ripped apart. I'm guessing this time the calendar is our friend. Let's hope we get our first ever 11 win season.

**If we get our 11th win, that doesn't go to Coach Albin, right? So, we would still never have had a coach win 11 games in a season?

Interesting theory. Probably played a part, since the players came back, regrouped and were back at practice in a few days. There were nine days from the MACC til when they flew to Orlando.

That said, Jacksonville has lost several to the Portal since the CUSA championship, a good portion of which left before RichRod did.

It’s really just a testimony to the culture and closeness of the team that they want to finish the journey together.

Also…CORRECT. The win will go to Smith if we win.

There were already 2 bowls on Saturday and 4 more tonight/Wed/Thu before our game.

But it is early and yes I do think it has led to more players just putting it on the backburner until we get to the weekend.

Think the closeness of this team is really showing me something.

I'm honestly shocked no one has jumped. In my heart of hearts, if I was in their position I think I would likely follow Tim, especially if I was a back-up... unless like I said in a different thread, Tim wasn't as highly thought of us many of us thought. Maybe most of the guys in the building felt Brian and Spense (People love Hauser as well) were the glue. Tremayne, D-Lo, Ispo... maybe the staff is what is what held the team together all along.

What will happen if the AD goes with an outside coach, and Hauser and Smith join Albin in Charlotte?

Virginia Tech just let some assistants go and that includes 35 year old DC Chris Marve. He formerly was also the linebackers coach at Florida State and at Vanderbilt. There will be lots of assistants looking for work. Good ones who players really like.

There is zero evidence to suggest we wont have a ton of players hit the portal if Smith is hired. Last year, we kept Smith, Hauser AND Albin and had to bring in 59 new players. Just. Last. Year.

That's also a good reason for the numbers to be down this year. portal weariness will start to have an impact on players. covid years are mostly gone, so fewer grad xfers. Key players are seniors anyway.

I think the Myrtle Beach Bowl was on the first day of bowl games last year but that didn't stop players from hitting the portal.

This hire will absolutely effect Portal Entrants. If Smith gets the job it will be far fewer. If they hire an OUtside candidate expect that number to triple.

We also ended last season on November 24th, so there were 22 days between the end of the season and the bowl game. This season, there were only 13.

Last year, I presume there were some disgruntled players. This year, it seems they must be gruntled. ;) Alternately, perhaps they will wisely sit out what is likely to be a poor year to enter the portal, and instead they will go next year.

We'll see what happens after the bowl.
