Smith and with a higher rate for him and his assistants than what Charlotte gave TA.

+1, definitely need to pay our assistants well. They have done a good job.

In my opinion, make Smith the head coach now with the caveat being he be receptive to trying to keep the bulk of current assistants, as well as being willing to negotiate the new contract so that the total package includes improving their standing too. They had a huge impact on our season and should reap some benefit as well. This would probably be somewhat unconventional but it would try to assure, as much as can be anyway, that the leadership does all they can to maintain the current culture and success.

Bottom line, for purposes of your survey, I guess I’d have to say I fall under the make Smith the head coach now category.

If their staff salary pool is indeed 1.8 mil and ours is 1.2 or whatever -that’s 50% more. Seems too rich for our blood to match but we shall see.

All roads lead to my guy. So that probably means they drag this out and sign the OL coach from Bishop Sycamore.

Anyway, if they do sign Smith my guess was around $1M.. still making him 4th highest... I would be surprised if his offer wasn't in the range of $850-$1M.

$1.3M Shane Montgomery
$1.25M Chuckles
$1.1M Candle
$850K for the WMU guy.

Maybe because he's here and we're notoriously thrifty, they think he'll take a discount. Tim got $900K from UNCC? Did I read that on here correctly? I think we use that as a benchmark and go over. Not even to be petty, but because OU is and should be looked upon even greater than those 4 other jobs.

My choice falls somewhere between the top two. Smith certainly seems like the logical choice, but I also hope that Cromer is doing (an incredible amount of) due diligence and working to secure as many of the assistants as possible - assuming the offer goes to Smith.

One thing that worries me… if it isn’t Smith, we could enter a long rebuilding period. Although in Portal Times, who knows.

This is a complex hire. Good luck Julie Cromer, may the force be with you.

No way we give him $1 mill to start. $700K tops. Otherwise an insult to Boals.

Are you being funny? Hard to tell on this board anymore.

Boals is the highest paid coach in basketball? Especially if he’s back on $800K.

$700K for Smith would be middle of the road. We don’t want to be a middle of the road destination or people leave our ass for Charlotte for a $100K raise.

Football is a different beast.
