Now I think I see part of the reason why he left this year. Are we really playing Rutgers, West Virginia, and Ohio State next year? That is one daunting schedule and I have to believe a 10 game win season is probably out of reach. Or we’re gonna have to make some changes to that schedule.

That is a tough schedule, but we got nothing to lose. We got a chance get fly the jolly roger in a big way. Any win against those power 4 schools is a boost. A win over Rutgers, Ohio State or West Virginia would be huge statement for the program.
We beat Rutgers and West Virginia and play a respectable game vs Ohio and run the table in the MAC that would be playoff worthy based on Boise State results this year. Odds will be close to zero for us, but the opportunity to reach playoff is possible with that schedule.

What was at stake is not winning 8 games and coach loses a year on his contract. No one else was still working on such a soft contract and no other Ohio coach was being held to that winning percentage. Here lies part of the issue.

I doubt that had anything to do with it. Easy to extend another year regardless of next years results.

Albin was ready to go and wanted to go. You can speculate all you want about what went on behind the scenes. Our financial situation is what it is. Soft contract? Albin already had a rolling contract, was set up for another raise this year. He's already a wealthy person and is set up for life.

A. We are probably making $3 Million Total for these games when it should be close to $25 Million. Good job.

B. Nobody is judging our coaches based on Non Conference results. Come on. They should be, but they are not. Boals would already be on the hot seat if Cromer gave a rat's ass about the non conference. Anyone remember losing to Cleveland State and Youngtown State last year? Didn't think so. We literally quit in the 2nd Half against Kentucky this year in football, and nobody has brought that up for 2 months. We had 10 examples of Coaching Malpractice against Syracuse, and it's a distant memory. Cromer and Gonzalez want their $3 Million (again, probably shorting the school/department by $22 Million but what's that between friends) and to see where the chips fall in the MAC.

I presume this is intended as sarcasm or humor? My guess is that Ohio State probably will have $8 million in ticket sales for the Ohio game, while Rutgers and WV will have $2-2.5 million in ticket sales. Thus, you are saying that playing Ohio is such an honor that other teams should be willing to pay 200% of their ticket sales for the privilege? The fact is that those schools have developed a fan base that fills their stadiums at real ticket prices. There is no reason they would ever agree to give all it to a visiting team, much less double all of it.

Thank you, LC. Welfare checks from P4 schools won't move the needle on Ohio Athletics. What does move the needle is a fanbase and/or TV market that can generate massive amounts of revenue. Not sure why Bobcat Love has to continue to brow beat the 1-2% of Ohio alums/SEO residents that are here trying to make whatever difference we can.

If you have ideas to increase Ohio-generated revenue, we are all ears. I saw that an NBA owner is proposing a private equity model for college programs. Now, he's probably thinking P4. But what if we are first-mover and put a price tag on our program? Could take financial onus off university and increase investment into Ohio Athletics.

Good God we'll look for any reason to explain why a coach left. You think Ohio's schedule is tough, have you seen Charlotte's? They're looking at a 1-5 start.

Are they only supposed to pay their opponent off the gate revenues? I would argue their CFP revenues are built off the backs of the Group of Five as well - Greg Byrne just made the point explicitly in our favor.

I don't agree with Ted's point above, but at least the man has ideas and actions.

Not so sure about that. Appy State was crappy state for some of last season.

The South Alabama team that Ohio beat? Blew out Appy 48-14.

The Georgia Southern team that never wants to see Ricky Hunt again beat them too.

A brutal schedule in 2025 and Ohio has zero business playing three power four programs in consecutive weeks. The amount of injuries that Kent accumulated in playing three power four programs is another reason why these games should not be scheduled. The WVU series is a bad schedule for the amount of money that Ohio is earning for those three games.

Rutgers had a $73 million loss from Athletics last year. They are not in any position to pay more for games. I know Ohio State does make money, but not many P4 schools do.

I am in total agreement with Ted. If Ohio wants to improve it's athletics, the answer is to enhance the brand, and fill the stadium, and to be able to increase the ticket prices. I've been saying that for 20 years, and I thought winning would do it, but it hasn't. Like Ted, I'm interested in new ideas.

I would add that, in addition to getting more money from ticket sales, being able to fill the stadium every week also enhances the value of the brand in terms of getting other conferences interested in Ohio, getting better bowl games, and getting on TV more often. As added bonuses, it will improve recruiting, and the ease of getting quality transfers, plus a boost in NIL money.

It's all good, and it is necessary. Now, how do we do it? Playing WVU at home is a start, I suppose, and Ohio should charge at least $25 a ticket for it, probably more like $40. The WV fans won't blink an eye at paying $40.

As shabamon pointed out above, the WV game is a home and home series. Ohio will receive no money from it, except the ticket revenue from a packed stadium. If Ohio is getting $3m, it is all from Rutgers and Ohio State.

With the WVU fanbase help, we may sell out our season ticket allotment. Seriously. We could be buying back our own tickets from WVU fans on Vividseats.

Our 2025 MAC schedule is no cakewalk either. It will be interesting to see if Band Day is in its usual first home game of the year which is WVU. Lots of lost ticket revenue if it is.

You actually prove Love’s point.

Rutgers loses ridiculous amounts on sports because of a history of bad decisions and bad football. In order to turn their budget around, they need to schedule wins. Not want, need. So they will make more bad decisions by overpaying for opponents. It’s the cycle of doom they face, despite all the p4 perks.

If they want to go broke, who cares?

Actually it does hold water. If it’s so easy to move off the 8 game extension and actually into a contract like literally everyone else has was so easy why didn’t OHIO do it? You can have your theories, I’ll keep my actual knowledge. It is what it is, it’s a business, some you all act like you would t change jobs for more money and more security. Funny, no one has asked Bolden, Boals, Carleton to go on a contract that allows them an extra year if they go 75% on the season.

Not only that about OSU, they have dedicated the maximum amount of revenue share to athletes, that means they are obligated themselves to 22% (?) more expenses, while trying to operate at the same level or higher.
