It was odd, but not classless. I believe the call came in notifying the twitter story was going to break, and a bus ride with the team at that point was untenable. They were still hours from Athens. Whatever happened from that point regarding negotiations I am not sure. I know the players were shocked but continued their celebrations to College Green and Uptown. They were the ones who padded up this season. I personally think the classless part came from whoever dropped it on the UNCC side.

I'm hearing the discussed deal was $10 mil, 5 years.
Maybe if we cut a real deal to play Ohio State or these other P4 schools at a fair wage, we could have stepped up to the plate....

I presume you realize that if Ohio State were paying $3 million, or whatever, to Ohio, it would only be because they are also paying $3 million to everyone else. Thus, if that enabled Ohio to up the coaches salary to $2 million a year, there is nothing to stop the other teams from offering $3 million.

The only way Ohio can compete is if they develop their own revenue stream, such as filling Peden every week at much higher ticket prices. That, and that alone, will increase Ohio's football revenue relative to other programs.

I agree with 357. This way of exiting has no class at all. Really downgrades my opinion of Albin.

I agree. If he got a big pay increase, I'm not surprised he took it. What does surprise me is the timing of his departure, and the way it was done.

Well I disagree with one of the above comments. This was classless. I don’t care who posted this or when it came out. The coach should’ve gone home with the team and talked to the team at some point in time. Don’t think he’s done it yet? Totally bush in classless.

Would any Charlotte team in the last 20 years have beaten an Ohio team? Doubtful. I didn’t know they had a football program. There has to be way more to this story. You go to OK State fine, I get it, this move stinks of drama from the Athletic Dept.
They haven’t even existed for 20 years!
Not surprised Coach Albin is moving on, but I am surprised at choosing Charlotte. They are 0-3 vs the MAC, losing those games by a combined score of 92-35. That includes their one and only Bowl game vs Buffalo which they lost 31-9. One power 5 win (lowly Duke). Their program restarted in 2013 and Albin is their 6th coach in those 11 years.

BS. As a coach who has taken a hard stance against players testing the transfer portal before bowl games, have some balls and stand in front of them and be honest. You’re supposed to be a leader.

Make a social media post acknowledging rumors and that you are unable to comment at the moment, then post a thank you to OU later as soon as it’s official. Instead he told the kids he would be back after picking up some cigarettes never to be heard from again. It’s been almost 20 hours since the story broke, and 5-6 since Charlotte posted about it, and it’s crickets.

I can't imagine the plan for Tim was to have the news break the way it did. Surely he would have liked to tell the players himself. My impression of the situation was that the players found out the same way we did. Bummer.

Definitely sounds like there were some leaky lips on the Charlotte side... The way it went down was unfortunate, to say the least.

I tend to agree, Casper. When I left my hotel in Detroit this morning I happened to share an elevator ride with the father of an incoming player. I will not mention his name or position, but he’ll be on the offensive side of the ball. The father, who I think may be an OHIO grad, said that he was upset at not knowing about Albin’s intentions earlier. He said that they might have still signed with OHIO, but he was clearly upset about how it went down.

And, am I remembering correctly that when a head coach leaves all letters of intent become null and void? Seems I remember this happening at some other programs when a coach leaves. Can anyone confirm or deny this.

But did this exchange really happen, OCF? You are the Zelig/Forest Gump of this forum. With apologies to Lin-Manuel Miranda, you always seem to be in the room where it happens. You know, blackballing of Marshall, etc.

Letter of intent are no longer binding period. It’s just a photo op in today’s world.

You stay at the DoubleTree last evening, OCF? We had a similar conversation with some parents at the bar last night.

Yes, Sir, that’s where we stayed. We actually ate in the bar last night, sort of along the back edge, away from the windows, because it felt a little too cold in that area. Too bad we didn’t have a chance to interact. Perhaps one of the parents you talked to was the same one I met in the elevator. But, shh . . . don’t let SBH know that you had such a discussion, he might start accusing you of OCF-level hallucinations and surreal ideation.

despite the above conversations, the next question is what players will transfer to Charlotte? everything is transactional.

I know it’s a different sport, but any chance of a Dan Dakich move here. He was at WVU about a week or so, and then returned to BG And, if he wanted to come back would we want to take him?

LOL I highly doubt this will be a Dakich situation considering that involved promises of illegal payments to an incoming player. Dakich knew nothing about it and told the WVU AD beforehand that he wouldn't be putting up with that. As soon the player asked him about it, he pretty much told confronted the AD on the lie and left.

Albin may not have been able to control how the story came out, but he darn sure could have said literally anything about it. He hasn't, but has already spoken with Charlotte media.

Classless. Totally unbefitting of the class way he carried himself for two decades in Athens. Hate to see it.

I think you’ve articulate what’s bothering me the most about this situation: TA’s actions here seem so out-of-character with his previous behavior. That’s why I continue to believe that there must be more to this story than we now know. I guess I’m trying to reduce my own cognitive dissonance. Perhaps, I’m reaching too far for a logical explanation. Perhaps, he really is just a total clod, but I still hold out hope there is some explanation that will make this all make sense and that will leave me with a good feeling about Albin, but as information keeps dribbling out this seems less and less likely.

One further note: I stayed after the game and watched the awards and trophy presentation. At the time I thought TA’s remarks were unusually generic and short. But, I reasoned that’s just Albin, he’s not much a public speaker. In retrospect, I think he must have already had his mind on Charlotte and was mentally detaching himself from OHIO.

I can't wait to get more facts around this change; the complete offer, Tim's current Ohio deal.
Like many I don't see this move as a step up. Many previous MAC coaches that leave go on to a BIG 10 program, MN or IS.

Just looked into TA's buy out, $1.8M, that's a pretty big number. Soon we will see all the financial numbers. $1.8M will pay for our new coach for at least 1 or 2 years. Did NCCC pay for this buy out?
