The right man for the job, under the circumstances.

Very interesting hire. Jim certainly runs a clean shop, and he's a darn good coach. Baylor's option is a lot different from Grobe's old-fashioned triple option. I wonder if he'll adapt, or they'll adapt. It'll be interesting to watch this unfold.

Certainly not the long term answer, as he's now 64. But he'll bring badly needed credibility and integrity. Wonder if he'll adopt the CEO model, and let co-ordinators handle strategy, play-calling, etc...

You obviously didn't watch the last couple years at Ohio, or his years at Wake. Must have been at the hotel waiting on the shuttle

Seems to me when I've watched Baylor they have more receiver options on the average play than Grobe did. Remember, we once had a QB who lead the nation in fewest passes attempted. Baylor, on the other hand, might have somewhat the opposite statistic in some recent years. Yes, I did watch his Wake teams every now and then, and they did pass more than in his early years, but nothing like what I've seen at Baylor. And, the routes the receivers at Baylor run seem to me a lot more complex. But you're the Xs and Os guy, so what do I know.

Frank Solich is our longest tenured coach in 30+ years, and we've heard people claim it wouldn't last due to his age for years... Obviously, those people were wrong. Maybe Grobe isn't a "long-term" answer at Baylor, but if that is the case I do not believe it is due to his age.

According to CBS, he's the "acting head coach" for 2016, so it appears to be a short-term thing. http://www.cbssports.com/college-football/news/veteran-co... /

CBS had another article stating that Baylor is losing recruits hand over fist. This gig may be a real struggle for him.

Baylor needs a stron figure who can help steer this ship through a difficult time, a person of character. With all that's going on and what may still be coming I doubt the expectations are real high.

OCF, you forget the man was here for several years and his offense evolved and what he ran at Wake was nothing like what he started with at OHIO.

Wow--I thought this thread was a joke.

Good hire for stability and a cool head in charge, at least.

Fixed that for you. The "at least" didn't fit. What they need is what you cite, "stability", someone to calm the waters and stop the outflow of integrity. Grobe will do that. Winning is not even a relevant criteria (though he will do an adequate job there as well). Also smart to go completely outside the program and school at this point. They can circle back to a Singletary or someone else later.....if they wish.

I think this a great thing for Grobe. He will not be held accountable for much this year unless discipline is not instilled on the team. Whatever recruits leave or there are transfers this year it will not be a reflection on him.
As someone else said he is there for 1 reason to stabilize the program.
He'll be paid well and really have no pressure from the school to win, unless he puts that pressure on himself.
I wish him well.
IF, he can win say 8 or more games, and have cleaned up the program he did his job and if he wants to return permanently to coaching the job may be his.

Mmmm... You might get a pass for one year in football in Texas. But to think that the fans (rationally or not) will for long think that winning is not such a big concern--not sure that's the way it plays in the foreign nation known as Texas.

Check out Charlie Strong's record at the University of Texas (Austin).

I'll always appreciate what he did in Athens, especially given the state of the program he inherited. Those were some tough, physical teams that played hard.

I agree with the prevailing sentiment: great hire under the circumstances.
