What! No Irons?

There they go - coaches playing the favorites. I'm telling you (and you know I'm right because I've said it 10,000 times). If Peyton Manning was on this team he would not be a captain. Not with these coaches.

Oh wait.

Congrats young men. Everyone knows that captains are appointed because of their leadership on and off the field. Well deserved.

I'm gonna read way too much into this and project that Maxwell will be our starter in the fall, since neither senior QB was selected.

Interesting thought. I wonder if Sprague's chest injury affected his captain status?

AJ earned it two years ago. If we keep asking the coaches, how is he and say we are looking forward to a monster year from him, he will never lose his starting position, even if we signed Barry Sanders or Emmett Smith. In fact we would only give them sparse minutes, just in case they might show well.

Being a BOBCAT Captain is about doing the right things consistently, even when no one is looking. Captains are not chosen by performance only but by doing things right off the field, being a good example for other players, being on time, good grades.....really the complete package. Players make the choices on captains and players rarely vote popular players like a high school would. Leaders are chosen by being an great extension and ambassador of Ohio University. Take my words for what you want but this is coming from someone who has lived it.

I believe you, I am just challenging the notion of earning a starting position for life. Many on this site, along with the coaches would start AJ over Barry Sanders and Emmett Smith in their primes. I believe that players like you set the foundation and as Ohio recruits better and better players, it is nothing wrong with a freshman or sophomore beating out a junior or senior for a position. If you recruit better, that's what happens

No, you are trying to create the notion that players have earned starting positions for life, even though there is not a trace of evidence that it has ever happened. Players lose starting postions on a regular basis, but for that to happen, the player below them needs to earn it. While you would like to gift it to a young recruit just based on potential, that will never happen. He needs to perform, and earn it.

Coach Solich also wants captains with good communication skills as he relies on them to strengthen communications between staff and players and among the players.

These appear to be excellent choices, choices that will lead both on and off the field. With Captains such as Casey, Q, AJ, and Jordan I think this is going to be a good Fall.

Thank you for clearing up that most important point that the players choose their captains. Some here were assuming they were appointed by coaches. In their assumptions their result was the usual.
