No surprise to see Western run away with MAC Championship votes.

I don't feel like anyone really has a good grasp on the East. BG lost a lot at the skill positions on offense, but they still should be quite good. OHIO returns a slew of solid defenders, some good receivers, RBs, and a good OL but doesn't seem like a super high ceiling team.

To me, if this Ohio team had a bona-fide QB, there probably wouldn't be much of a question. Since that's a little up in the air, BG obviously gets the nod because of recent success.

Not good news. No one expects this staff to win this worst of all divisions in this lousy conference. No respect from voters. But the SIG folks on here will never admit he makes any mistakes. No reasonable criticism allowed.

What? No #____________UTM?

I'm more than OK with not being picked first. Let BG have the target on their backs. The East winner may have 2-3 losses in conference (if you count crossover games with the West). Maybe we can make it to Detroit and pull a rabbit out of our hat a la Miami, Buffalo, 'kron etc. over a heavily favored West(ern?) team.

Before that though I would love to see us break the 0-fer streak we've been on against Northwest Ohio teams.

I might suggest that BG already has that target, without the polls, given the last few seasons of success.

Bring on BG at home. I just hope we get above average play from the QB position. Seems like we have been challeneged to do so going back to the infamous 15 second play with 12 seconds left in Oxford.

I wasn't really surprised by this 1 - 2 vote.
If our QB situation was ranked higher so would our position.

Interestingly this media poll lines up almost exactly with the preseason consensus of prognosticators:
http://www.stassen.com/preseason/consensus/2016.html#mac

BG is a slight favorite over Ohio, then quite a ways behind are Akron and Miami, then Buffalo and Kent in last. The Media poll is the same, but swapping Buffalo and Miami. On the west the Media poll is an exact match to the consensus, with even the margins the same.

The interesting thing is the variety of opinions on Akron. Akron has to be a hard one to pick, since they rely so heavily on JUCOs and transfers. As a result there isn't going to be a lot of continuity from one year to the next, with every year having a bulk of the starters leaving, but being replaced by new transfers. Phil Steele has Akron picked to tie for the championship (with BG and Ohio), while Cap Heresy has Akron picked last and two others have them in 5th.

There is also a wide variety of opinions on Miami. They have been recruiting well for a few years now, so it's likely that we'll see some improvement on the field this year. If not, I suspect they will try yet another coach soon.
