I will offer a different opinion that will probably be unpopular on this board.

This was not Frank's fault.

This loss was squarely on the players.

You wanted Irons in short gain situations? You got him and he didn't deliver.

A redshirt senior gets called for a critical unnecessary roughness penalty in OT? Not Frank's fault.

Running out the clock and your QB fumbles? That's on the QB.

Not staying in your zone on defense on the trick play that led to the TD? That's a player mistake.

Bad snap? Come on Frank, practice them more!

Frank's coaching wasn't perfect. There were questionable personnel decisions, but the player mistakes lost this game.

So Solich isn't primarily responsible for the selection and performance of the players?

It was truly impressive that the 'nouncers said that our O-line outweighed their D-line by 70 lbs per man but we couldn't get key short yardage a whole handful of times.

I won't go 'shoulda gone two-back sets at points' on ya.

I will point out that TX State went for it by running on 3rd and 1, getting about 2.5 yards against us each time, on two third downs in the second half. At least one of those drives led to a td for TX State.

Head coach no responsibility for team's performance?
CEO not held to account by stockholder's for company's performance?
In American in 2016?

Frank and his staff recruit the players.
He is the CEO of this thing, so the buck stops with him.
He has kept this staff of dinosaurs together.
8-5, 7-6, 6-6 are unfortunately considered successful seasons by this fanbase.
I lived thru Bobcat football hell as a student/season ticket holder with Lichtenberg, the revival with Grobe, and then shit with Knorr.
I appreciate where we have been this last 12 years, but B.S. like this is getting way to common and way too acceptable by a fanbase who just craves for 7-5 and a bowl.
I hope this is a successful season, but I hope it becomes a season of change.
I think today shows it is the direction we need to go.
I will be at the Gardner-Webb game on 9/24, we will be 0-3 and many here will be so satisfied with beating the poop out of them.
I love the university and athletic programs, but I am allowed to not be happy with the very average maintaining of status quo with the football program.
This is not just about today.
After last year, a family member was fired at a BCS school, so I get the impact that it has and would never wish it on anyone, their families, or their staff/families.
But, the end has to come, and a year too early is always better then a year too late.
1968 and counting!

If this fanbase craved 7-5 and a bowl bid, we wouldn't have pathetic bowl ticket sales.

I have been a critic of Solich's recruiting in the past, but I'm only focusing on this past game right now. Solich is ultimately responsible, but he is not to blame. Responsibility and blame are not the same things.

The players were put in a position to win if they executed their plays.

Make the catch. Don't fumble. Surge the line at 2nd/3rd and short. Don't commit senseless penalties (did I hear they had over 100 yards in penalties at halftime?). Don't blow your defensive assignment.

They didn't execute these things.

Conversely, I thought the Texas State game coaching was awful. Two timeouts on punts. Declining penalties that would have taken Ohio out of FG range. Bad time management. But their players made the plays when it counted. Ours didn't.
