I had a reason to be at the University of Akron's Infocision Stadium on Friday evening for their marching band's parent night meet and greet.

Two things.

The fifth floor of the home side is an amazing space for gatherings and game watching; huge with a bar and floor to ceiling windows on the field side and on the the western skyline.

Secondly, while the band was going through what they had practiced during their band camp week for a few hundred parents, out stepped Coach Terry Bowden.

He took the mic and thanked the band for their dedication and how the corner was turned last season and more good things were ahead. That the team and the band are in it together and that they would make it to Detroit together and then to a good bowl game. Then he turned and climbed the ladder and started directing the band while turning back to the audience and encouraging them to clap along.

I thought it a neat touch by the traveled coach who has brought Akron out of the depths.

Shades of Joe Namath? Or, Babe Ruth's called shot?

Very bad. Forgive me for being envious of WMU's recruiting.

Ohio doesn't have much room to talk. No program is perfect.

+1

Wasn't it just last week that we were defending one of our own players and getting bent out of shape because his past was brought up in an article??? This is the one thing that drives me up a wall about our wonderful (and I mean that sincerely) BA community, sometimes we are way to quick to throw stones at other houses.

I don't think that people were getting bent out of shape because his past was brought up, but rather the way it was brought up. Arkley brought it up, and gave a fair presentation of the situation, and of the things Windham has done since.

There is no question, though, that Ohio has had similar situations. These two players remind me of the Ohio player who was caught breaking and entering a few years ago, or of Windham's roommate, or a few others. There will always be players who do inappropriate things. Ohio responded appropriately, kicking players off the team. WMU has also acted appropriately, and done the same.

As I understand it, that makes six players from their 2016 recruiting class who already are not with the team.
