ESPN's Outside the Lines analyzed each college football program as far as how much money was spent and where it came from. Not surprisingly, it shows a huge disparity between P5 and G5 schools. Here's some info on Ohio for 2015:

Interesting how they separated University Subsidies and Student Subsidies. I would think those are essentially the same thing depending on how you classify them on your books?

And can you imagine the outrage of those 20 schools getting STATE funding to run a football program? Let me guess: most of those are in the South where football matters over everything else? Imagine if that were happening to Ohio.

Coaches salaries/benefits, 8th in MAC. Ohio getting a lot of bang for their $$$.
Games expenses, (105th of 105, 12th in MAC), what are these?

I believe "Money from away games" would be income. I am sure that we are getting paid to go to a P5 school to play a non conference game. Well maybe not Kansas....

That's under guarantee games in the top section. This probably how much we spend to go to away games.

Maybe if we repeat it a lot more than 2 or 3 SFB will buy it.

We only have a net loss that small due to the 5th highest student subsidies in the country. Remove that support and count real revenue and what is our operating loss.

Something I would be fascinated to see is how that revenue and operating gain/loss compares to other sports at Ohio University - specifically, Men's and Women's basketball, and volleyball, along with baseball.

Yes, Upsan pointed that out in his initial post. Along with the fact that all but one other university in the MAC lost more - we make up for that loss via student subsidies. How do the other MAC teams address it? How do others handle the finances?

Agreed! I'm not sure where to search that out, but it has to exist from some time in the last 2-3 years, right?

ESPN's Outside the Lines analyzed each college football program as far as how much money was spent and where it came from. Not surprisingly, it shows a huge disparity between P5 and G5 schools. Here's some info on Ohio for 2015:

Income
Ticket sales: $1,220,176 (91st of 105 public schools, 6th in the MAC)

Direct state government support: $0 (only 20 schools get this, none from MAC)
University subsidy: $0 (only 24 public schools get none, only school in MAC to get $0)
NCAA money: $1,432,623 (56th public, 5th in MAC, not sure what this is but it seems kind of random with big and little schools all over in rankings)
Conference money: $961,000 (88th public, 6th in MAC)

Money from away games: $844,000 (69th among 105 public, 3rd in MAC)
Coaches salaries and benefits: $5,328,810, 86th public, 8th in MAC)

Total operating expenses: $27,110,443 (111th overall among all, 9th in MAC)

RE: game expenses...first thought in my head was how much we spend to have non-conf opponents visit Peden?
I believe that's what it is. Basically the opposite of the guarantee games, it's the money Ohio pays teams to come play at Peden. It probably doesn't vary much, but of course, the guarantee game can vary quite a bit by year. For example, last year Ohio got $700,000 to go to Minnesota. I assume going to Tennessee this year will be a bigger payday.
