With it being on CBS, would I be able to get it on tv all the way out in western Illinois?

Pound the ground with AJ, Maleek, Dorian and Papi. Rinse and repeat. Make it easy on Windham. If Ohio gets a big lead, I wouldn't mind seeing a few drives letting Windham test his arm. He needs all the reps he can get.

Run D should win the game. First test for the new secondary.

Get a "big lead" then open up the passing. I would wager a paycheck that ain't gonna happen. Any passing would be early or in balance with running if the game remains close.

This will be a warmup for the new secondary. The Texas State fans are openly calling their receiving corps horrible.

And Ohio's secondary is basically brand new. We know next to nothing about them.

Of course this would be the ideal situation. I'm just saying if Ohio happens to get a big lead, let Windham throw it more than normal. Get the lead with the ground game first.

If the ground game is working early, I would be wary about opening up the playbook. I'm not expecting anything close to a win against Tennessee, but I really hope we beat Kansas, and I wouldn't want to put too much on film for KU if we don't need to.

I expect the opposite. I expect Ohio to start the game with the normal mix of 50% passing, 50% runs, and then if the lead opens, to throw less, and to experiment with the running game. If the game isn't tight, I expect we'll see Maxwell run a drive in the second quarter, and then run the bulk of the fourth quarter.

When the game is over, my guess is that Windham has about 15 passes attempted.

I don't doubt that's probably what will happen. I still wouldn't mind seeing the coaching staff open it up a little and get both Windham and Maxwell's confidence up.

GoCats105 I understand the method to your desires. However, you originally called for working on the passing game after developing a "big lead." Coaches like Solich just don't do that. To the other bench he would be running up the score. Up two scores and coach Solich will begin to get the game over with ASAP.

The game isn't on CBS. It's on the cable channel CBS Sports Network. It will be shown nationwide on that channel.

Run it to the 50, then throw it on their side of the 50. Just my $.02.

So Vegas calls it somewhere in the 42-21, 40-19 neighborhood. I don't know that I have enough confidence in our offense for that....but maybe I'm over-estimating Texas State's D.

Ehhhhhh.....my gut says lay the points (that seems like a sucker's line), and take the under, so that's what I'll say (for entertainment purposes only, of course).

I think it'll be more like 35-10, 35-7, something like that.

Could just be 28-3? Or 24-0?

Over/Under is too high for that kind of a score, but yes, I think that is more likely than a 42-21 points-fest.

And totally OT, but RIP Gene Wilder. Watching "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory" as the midnight movie at the Athena sophomore year ranks as one of the top 10 most "college" moments for me. (I swear I wasn't on any illegal substance, but I'm pretty sure 75% of the audience was).

So what do I do if I don't have CBSSN? With my being in huge Hawkeyes and Illini territory (I'm just across the river from Iowa, about 45 minutes from Iowa City), I doubt I can find a place sympathetic enough to let me watch the Bobcats :/

Interestingly, this is exactly what Bill Hess did with his better teams. He was as conservative as you can get in play calling until the team got to the 50-yard line. At that point, his play calling started to resemble modern-day Baylor. Well, that's a slight exaggeration, but it was much more wide open -- with many, many types of passes, roll outs, slants, wheel routes, etc.

Could we take up a collection on BA to buy the athletic department a nice directional shotgun mic that could be used to capture the reporters' questions at these press conferences? I find it hard sometimes to figure out the question and even occasionally which player is being discussed when we can't hear the actual question asked.
